How do you bypass/disable the lid switch on speed queen washers?

Newer models

The newer models have the back above the drain hose covered with a plate. You now have to unscrew the back above hose to get at the switch

Clothespin trick worked no problem on my AWNE82 built in September 2017. It was a perfect fit. Access to area is still open as shown in the above photo.

I used a piece of cardboard. Would take 2 seconds to remove if I ever needed lid function again. I want to say thank you as well, had it not been for this thread I would have been splicing wires.

 then again, you have some of the more stupid parents who think their child is SO smart.....and there ain't a brain in there at all....my kids who are honor roll students, do some of the most bizarre things that would boggle your mind....and do the same mistake over and over and over again......you would think I didn't teach them anything!

 

The frontal cortex in children (and young adults sometimes up to 24yrs old) is still developing. This is the part of the brain that makes decisions on things like right/wrong/go/stay etc. Obviously if it's not matured, even kids with high IQ's struggle.  It's what we used to call having street smarts or not.

 

A Harvard neurologist published a book called The Teenage Brain.  A fascinating study on the effect of binge drinking, drug use and the stupid decisions teens often make. One thing I was particularly fascinated with was that she found teens apparently are hard-wired to leave home. And even if they don't want to yet, just thinking about it gives them an endorphin/dopamine rush.

I pretty much like my hands the way they are--so while I'd once relished in the thrill of washing my tub spin, (via "something" that I'd inserted in my lid switch, that I simply don't recall) I wisely kept my distance away, and even think back to the few times I shift things around in the tub while the agitator is just moving, with it never occurring that my hand could get caught in the action & too late to free it if it ever got snagged in the garments of clothes that I need to turn off the machine first (and usually move to where the water fills & allow thew additional water being added to mat down the material so it gets its dunking & drubbing, rather than force it down)...

A delay in a dryer switch being available for our dryer led the repairman for it to temporary bypass the switch needed to shut it off when the door was opened, and only once or twice had I opened it during that pending repair, after convincing the repairman we would leave the door shut until the dryer completely finished its drying; it was maybe the FIRST time that I'd FORGOT, the SECOND?--er, well,...

<span style="font-size: 14pt; color: #008000;">I saw a video on Youtube where a magnet was used to bypass the lid switch. It was necessary to remove the top. I like the clothespin method much better. Very easy to remove. Like most people, I have always used clothespins to fix things, including pulling them apart when a small shim was needed somewhere. </span>

so i've tried said clothespin "hack" and washer will start again but only for around 10 sec .(till its up to speed i assume) then off it goes with the same "lid" message
so sow not sure what to do ? any ideas.....possibly some one could show me how to bypass switch by jumping it and putting in a momentary switch? thanks in advance

Speed queen lid switch SQ 2019 Classic

I tried your idea with the clothes pin inserted but now the washer will not start even with the lid down. Lights are on but on/off light is flashing. This is for the SQ classic 2019
After removing the clothes pin the washer started.

Machines with electronic controls typically won't start another cycle until the lid is opened/closed after the previous cycle ... so you'll probably have to remove the bypasser to release the switch (open the lid), then reinsert it.

My 2017 9 Series has electronic controls and the clothespin trick worked. Wonder if SQ got wind of how many owners bypass the safety switch and added the extra layer of security? Keeping things on the down-low is not one of the internet's strong suits, lol.

Hope the clothespin on my machine doesn't fall off at some point. I'd never be able to move the washer enough to get behind and clip it back into place. Would miss not being able to see if the load is gradually turning over, or to watch the spin-drain for kicks and giggles.
