How Does It Work? - Technicolor

After reading the thread on the Kodachome film, I saw a reference to Technicolor. I have heard of something called the "Technicolor Process". What is it? Do they use three cameras for each primary color and then merge the film? How do they do it?

And what is the difference between different color companies, like
Technicolor
Pathe
DeLuxe

With all the knowledge on this site I figured somebody could give me an answer. Thanks in advance.
