How does one remove an agitator in 1980s-90s Frigidaire stack?

Hello. I am trying to find out how to remove the agitator in a 1980s-90s Frigidaire laundry center in my sister!s apartment. Unfortunately a sheet caught underneath the agitator. The model number of the unit has rubbed off, but a picture of the agitator has been provided. Thank you for any insight.

most times it should come off the block, in this case it might help to remove the bolt and slide the whole assembly off the shaft....

in any case, you may want to use something like PB Blaster to penetrate and loosen the pieces....

some pour really hot water over top to help loosen....wrapping a few rags around the top area to keep in the heat....

an agi-tamer usually works best if you can locate one.....

and sometimes you can criss-cross two rachet tie-downs under the agitator and over the top of a 2x4 across the assembly, and apply more tension back and forth from each....most times, the agitator will pop off.....

have always been curious as to how clothes get stuck under agitators....have seen it many times, but in all my years has never happened to me....I have a SIL who does this constantly, I took the machine and ran load after load, nothing happened, she gets it back and the first load, there it is again...

but am curious with this machine....when you do get the agitator out, check the sheet to see if there was a rough spot on the agitator that could be snagging clothing....

That agitator is a PAIN to remove.

You need patience, strong arms and more patience otherwise you can end up breaking the agitator or the drum.

Stuck Agitator, Clothes Getting Caught Under Agitator

This agitator should be easy to remove, as Martin suggested apply penetrating oil to the metal parts, then I take a socket around a 3/8" that will sit over the threaded stud and grab the agitator with one hand and pull up and hit the socket with a hammer and the agitator will pop loose, you probably will not have to hit it twice.

 

Clothing is more likely to get caught under the agitator if a sheet etc gets wrapped around the agitator when loading, a sheet etc should be balled loosely and placed in no more than 1/4 of the tub. 

 

These machines are also more likely to get stuff caught under the agitator because the wash tub moves during agitation, a bad and cheap way to make a machine, this saved the maker the cost of having a tub brake.

Thank you for all your suggestions & support. No progress has been made over the Thanksgiving week, but a model number has been found: LCE462PW1 Also, a service manual for an earlier 1980 Frigidaire Laundry Center (LC-208H, -240H, -120H) was found in the manual & literature section of Automaticwasher. As far as I can tell, it is mechanically the same or very similar. The extent of the instruction is to "remove the agitator-cap and agitator" off the drive lug. If one was to continue with a disassembly, then remove the stud bolt from the drive lug. But some very good diagrams & pictures show what is under the agitator cap & agitator and that has been helpful. Hopefully this will be resolved later this week. Also, I've been unsuccessful finding an agi-tamer to have on hand. These devices seem long gone & nowhere to be found. The newer pneumatic devices are usually square or rectangle and not quite a right fit to add pressure evenly under the agitator like the donut shaped agi-tamer. If anyone would have one in the Boston area I can borrow, please let me know. Thank you, Kevin
