Phyllis Diller in real life--

is/was said to be a suprisingly good cook. I remember around 1978-80 (?) an article on her in Bon Appetit.....

I have heard her (on tv) at the piano, and she was also better than adequate there, as well.

oh, and by the way:

I'd kill to get my hands on ONE of her GE JP17 Custom built-in ovens. They have an integral meat thermometer AND a built-in ROTISSERIE!!!!!!!! (Why, oh why did the idiots who design American appliances these days think it was a good idea to eliminate this feature? Now if you want one, you have to shell out 4000 for a Gaggenau). If anyone knows of any around, please contact me.

Yes, my GE P-7 oven has a built-in rotisserie and meat thermometer - but the actual parts were missing when I bought the house. I supposed I could call GE to see if there are replacements, but I don't think I'd ever use the rotisserie function anyway (I have a gas BBQ rotisserie on a covered patio). The meat thermometer would be fun, though.

Might it happen--

that with the "blazing" success of the Ronco "Showtime" rotissierie, that the appliance manufacturers might be induced to offer it again, at least on the TOL ovens? Having one inside a self-cleaning oven would be appealing to me.

Phyllis Diller Joke

I got a chance to see her at one of her last live shows here.

A little old lady was hurrying to get to church, but just as she got there she tripped and fell.

A gentleman approached her, fearing she was late, she asked "Sir, is Mass out?"

He replied, "No, but your hat is crooked."
