Pete, Thats definitely worth looking in to as I love going to the Maritime Provinces and see relatives there, since it is so close. It is so different there with a completely different friendly attitude that you dont usually find. But it is pain with having to get a passport. My other grandfather came from Nova Scotia and was naturalized in 1935, so I may be more Canadian that I thought because to the best of my knowledge none of them ever renounced Canadian citizenship. Dad used to say that he had dual citizenship. Who knows, maybe he did. Unfortunately they have all passed on so I cant go to someone and ask them.

Forget the passport get a Nexus card

Tim if you don't have a passport and no plans of ever traveling other than to Canada get a Nexus card (Trusted Traveler) instead of a passport. It's less expensive and good for 5 years. But you have to apply online giving them all your personal info so that both the US and Cdn border agencies can do background checks etc. Then if you pass that hurdle (takes a few weeks) you're scheduled for an interview at one of the border offices and they take your picture, take your fingerprints, read you the rules of use and give you a Nexus card. You can then avoid all the long lineups, the interrogations etc by using Nexus lanes at most Cda/US border crossings
