How Old is my Portable GE Radio?

Over the weekend I purchased this integrated circuit GE radio at a thrift store. the seller told me that the radio was from 1975 and that it was very good quality. The radio however looks newer, the date code on it is 2222k and the model number is 7-26600.Can anyone please tell me how old this radio really is and if it truly is a quality piece.

early 80s, I'd think...83 or 84.

With GE's electronics, they all follow the same 4 digit date code pattern, starting in the 70s, possibly late 60s going all the way into the 2000s.

The second digit of the code is the last digit of the year it was made. So with it being 2222k I'm going to say 1982.

After 1987 or 88 GE's electronics were being made by Thomson, a French Company.

At first I thought 1975 would be about right, but the color scheme says '80s to me, too.

I have one of these radios. Working great for years. I think I bought mine around 1981. Where yours is red mine is black letters with silver grey background. I cant tell you how many ball games and talk shows I have listened to on this radio over the years doing yard work. It has been one I take along everywhere. You will like it.

I did a nationwide newspaper search for Model 7-2660.

 

The first ad for it appeared in September of 1983, the last ad in May of 1992.  So it looks like this model was sold for a long time.

I have something similar, a GE AM/FM portable. I think I got it in the 70's at a local company (Whole Earth Access in Berkeley). It's mono but had good reception and tone. Where is it now? Got me!

My dad got a GE radio sometime in the 70's that had the same case, but was Black and Silver. I may still have it somewhere.
