I had the parts professionally powder coated, it was pricey, however I am quite pleased with the results.

Oh ok. I'm not willing to do that. I just need to get more info on the clear coat option. Wondering what the results look like.
I see some of the beautiful sets from the 60s/70s that have been beautifully restored. I just wonder what they do in regards etching.

Hiding an etched surface on porcelain enamel
It’s not that common for porcelain enamel to become etched, somebody put a strong chemical on the washer top at one point, I guess if you don’t want to try the clearcoat on your washer top, you could experiment by getting an old lid or top off a machine that has porcelain on it and etch with some muriatic acid and then see if you can hide the damage.
The clearcoat will only hide the damage the surface will always be etched underneath.
No, you do not want to powder coat over porcelain enamel. It would look OK but it’s not the same as a porcelain finish. It might be a good idea if the overall finish was really bad shape.

John, can you recommend a product for the clear coat? Do I spray just affected areas or the whole thing?
I would just mask the area with a piece of thin cardboard with a whole cut just a little larger than the etched area and try just coding that area that is etched.
If it doesn’t work, you can take solvent and remove it
