That brings back some childhood memories, our local laundrette was Frigidaire equipped. It was only small and took up the ground floor of a terraced house, if I remember correctly there were 5 turquoise washers and 5 dryers. All the signs were the same as was the wonderful 1970's grooved plywood wall covering as in your 3rd and 4th pictures.

Wood panelled walls

If only it was wood, this is faux wood panelling with an imitation plastic finish on hard board (thin flexible wood panels probably made of sawdust or even paper pulp) Or thin ply at best.
Normally used as a quick and reasonably cheap solution for damp walls and flaking plaster

Ian, you have been in my living room so you know it is quite a dark room. Can you imagine what it must of been like with "panelling" like this all across the chimney breast and along the side up to where my stereo is. And this when the bay window at the side would have been about half the height it is now and not a bay window. All it needed was some typically 1970s swirly carpet and three piece suite to complete the picture. I know they had it because, at some point when it was all removed, a former owner tacked it to the walls of the garage and you could see the slot that had been cut in it for the Baxi Bermuda gas fire/central heating boiler.

I Loved That Movie!

'My Beautiful Launderette' was an amazing movie. Of course, back when that came out, God forbid that regular theaters down here in the South release it. I went back then with a gay friend and I think I was the only straight guy in the Greenway Plaza theatre here in Houston. It was where 'Taxi Zum Klo' and the original 'La Cage', etc., would show. Beautiful underground theatre in a super modern office complex (back then). I hadn't thought about that film in years, Frigilux--thanks for reminding me! Need to watch that again...

Sometimes the plastic face "Marlite" Masonite wall panels can be nice looking and look like wood-its a photo of a real wood piece on the plastic Melamine surface. Its the real cheap particle board panels that are bad.
