I know I'm dealing with dated technology, but I ask this group every time I have a question about anything.

Here's what I have. In my family room, I have a 32" CRT TV, and a nine year old G4 dual processor tower Mac running 10.4.11. I love watching shows on Hulu, but I would rather watch them from my recliner. What would be a good way to get my computer to my TV?

I am currently watching the sci-fi series Lexx. It is hilarious, but not for the kiddies.

I agree with you there, but I'm currently unemployed. I plan to buy a Mac Book as soon as I find a job, with TV replacements coming after that.

I guess I need a more comfortable desk chair :-)

Jackson,

Does your G4 have an S-Video Out? Alternatively, there are a bunch of hardware solutions (cards, USB, etc) that would give you a load of features and flexibility along with AV-out, but you're probably better off putting that towards the new MacBook.

You have two problems, getting the stuff out and getting it in. On a tight budget it's tough. You might want to look at some of the adapters that stream Hulu as well as netflix and such but you are looking at $90-$100.

You could look on ebay and find a used blu ray player that might have the network capability built in. The blu ray part does not need to work all you need is the streaming part, might find a broken unit cheap.

I've been watching Legend of the Seeker via Netflix streaming in HD the last few days, been enjoying it. Hd will spoil you, at this point if it's not in HD I really, really have to want to watch it to get me to watch SD.

thanks for the input guys. I guess I'll wait till I get the new mac book. Until then, I can commandeer one of my kid's laptops if I want to watch in my chair. Both of my kids and my wife have Windows laptops, but I love my Mac, so I'm the last hold out to get one.

Jackson, what model G4 is it? usually, Apple model numbers are Mxxxx. Or, can you give me the last 3 characters of your serial number?

Apple service part 661-2515 should work in most G4's. Hard to find, though, and pricey. I have an old Mac ATI 3D Rage Pro 2MB (PCI) Video Card that should do it, not sure if its still working. It has s-video and RCA outputs and would go in a slot other than your AGP. Would need to know your machine to figure out if it works.
