Hunting tips

I'm a brand new member and I stumbled on this site looking for info on vintage dishwashers. I already own a '53 GE liberator Stove and '53 GE fridge in perfect working order. I found the stove in craigslist.

Washers dryers and dishwashers seem to be even more rare. I was wondering if you guys had any tips on how to find them? I'm now on the hunt for a 50"s washer and dryer to restore.

Well I can tell that if anyone can help you find that these guys here at AW.org are always posting machines found anywhere. You might have to travel to get it or pay for shipping. You just have to be patient and the machine will appear.

ill tell ya joe is right. this is a great place to start and it never hurts to just get out there and look around. the best finds turn up when you least expect them too.. what brand dw and washer are you lookin for?

stop looking!.....as odd as that maybe, its when you are not looking for something is when it pops up.......

I was not looking for anymore Neptunes or GE filter flos.....and I am overcome with them......was looking for a frigidaire FL for undercounter use.......

check here frequently in the imperial section, members post a lot of stuff advertised on craigs list and e bay. i would also check e bay and craigs list directly every couple days.

you will be amazed at what will pop up when you least expect it. good luck!

I would take a trip tp Maryland myself John, I too am a fairly new member and still have not found anything. I do check Craigslist every few days and e-bay, there is very rarely (at least in the last few months)any washers in my area-NJ,PA. I was in Boston last weekend and looked while I was there.
I have thought about checking appliance stores to inquire about what they do with the appliances they haul away when delivering a new machine to someone's house.
I would love a late 50's or early 60's (up to 1965) Filter Flo (solid tub) or a Lady Kenmore or Whirlpool. But for my first machine I would take just about anything in that year range. Any ideas?

Hi John: Just how far is Beltsville from the DE border? I have relatives in Newark DE who I visit every 5 or 6 weeks. What is the best way for us to contact each other, neither of us have our e-mails listed.
Yesterday I responded to a Craigslist ad , listed on AW on the 4th for a 1950's Whirlpool set. I was too late, again! They were however, in Michigan, I would have had to arrange shipping, probably costly huh? Oh well, I do hope an AW member got them. If they were '56 - '59 I am a little envious, I love the way they look and light up. My aunt had them in her kitchen when I was growing up and I loved them even then.

It used to be that trade-in machines could be found behind Lowe's and Home Depot and could sometimes avail themselves to disappearing.

 

Around here, trade-ins are now dumped in an enclosed area and can't be accessed.  I think this practice increased with the Cash-For-Clunkers appliance deals from last year which required documentation that clunkers had been scrapped and not allowed back into circulation.

If you get OFF the interstates and ride the backroads,you can find old mom and pop stores galore, 9 times out of 10 they will have something...A old storage building,a back room, old parts etc,plus thrift stores can be great, not so much Goodwills and the sort, but small private thrift stores....We get a map and plan road trips by the old roads and not the interstates, you will be amazed what turns up, especially in small towns that the interstates by passed years ago.
