We dont needa Rita!

Best wishes to all my friends down there! Keep safe. Love you guys and worry about you all!

Venus and Westy and all the members in Texas. We hope and pray that all of you come through this safely.

Venus these pictures are for you. MY daughter saw "Boy from Oz" A few times and met Hugh Jackman after each show. He is a great guy and very nice to talk to. We went with her one weekend and waited an hour and a half for him to arrive at the theater just to get this picture. Hope it makes your day.

Adios Applianceville! Hasta luego!

Well it's been one helluva day here in the Houston area. OMG...the traffic, the gas lines, the idiot drivers who can't drive *normally* who drive even worse during wide spread panic. This whole day I have been in a shock about all of this. It's so overwhelming, seeing all of this. Katrina taught us a lesson, and I believe we are heeding to this lesson now.

Glad to read those of you who have fam. in the area are gone. I made the decision early this morning that I will be going a little north east of Lufkin, close to the Lousiana border, with my family. I pray those of you who stay, will be safe, dry, and did I say SAFE? This 'caine is going to kick some arse!

I got what I could out of this trailer, stuff is scattered around town now, in 3 different places. This is so sad to leave your home and belongings behind. And my fishies. :-(

I am going to do a final private mini-wash in the old Maytag A-606. Extra sudsy, lol. She's been a rock solid machine, and I hope I don't loose her, or any of the other appliances and things that are getting left behind.

Steve (toggleswitch) Have a Happy Happy Happy Birthday toots!!!! Save me a piece. (of cake! lol ;-) )
I will wait with baided (sp?) breath for your email response.

I will be taking the computer offline around 10 tonight, and heading over to sis's, and then we will be taking off around 2 am, for the 4 hour drive north. With traffic the way it has been running, I hope it doesn't take 10-20 hours. Heard rumours today at the bank while standing in line that it was taking people 20 hours to get TO Dallas FROM Houston!!! (normally a 3 1/2 hr.-4 hr. trip) This is crazy here! The credit union wouldn't let anyone get out more than $200. There were over 50 people standing in line. Most banks were closed, and lines were crazy for ATM's and such, IF you could find one that wasn't "out of order".

Are we running out of money too...along with gas, food, water, plywood, and such? Who knows? I am set, and almost ready to hit the road...well, it will probably be a slow crawl, but we will be safe by daylight on Thursday morning.

All of you in the path of this storm, and now the tornado in Minneapolis, are in my thoughts. Not much I can do from Maryland, but hope the storms die out some and no one gets hurt. I have never had to evacuate for a storm, I know it must be terrible to have to choose what to take but like everyone has stated, the material things we can replace. Know that we are all here for you all!

If anyone needs a place to stay....

It's dry up here in the flatlands of Lubbock. I know it's a long drive (about 9 hours from Houston), but I have some extra room and will be glad to open my home to anyone who needs it. (I'll just move a few of the detergents out of the way... LOL).

Well, I went to Sam's, gas @ Sam's, and Wal-Mart to get some stuff just in case I lose power from the tropical force winds projected to be here Sat. afternoon/eve. We are out of bottled water this evening. Why? (I know I should begrudge). Shown on the 6 o'clock news people form Houston are coming up here to get supplies. I got 4 litres of fru fru water. I'll simply fill up my 3 gallons of pitchers with water and have gatorade too. My parents are still staying put. Glenn, there are no rooms in Temple/Belton/Waco/Austin. Except for my guest room.

What hurricane! I'm busy drooling!.

MIKE: YOU MADE MY DAY!!!

Hugh Jackman is such a cutie! I'm glad to hear that he is a nice guy and not one of those full-of-themself jerks. Ah, it gives me hope for the rest of mankind! LOL

You have a lovely and talented daughter. I hope she enjoys much success in the theater field!

Thanks for the great pics!

Venus :-D

It's almost too late to leave. The freeways are totally backed up and at a stand still. Yesterday morning HD and Lowes had plenty of plywood, but no hurricane clips to use to attatch it to your house! Even your small Mom & Pop hardware stores were sold out. We were able to get all of our supplies, thank goodness.
The power company is predicting power will not be restored for up to 14-16 days after the storm.
We are up in the Spring/Woodlands area. Most everyone here is staying for the storm, we are at 38' elevation which should be high enough. Like stated before in this post, we are not worried about the flooding, we are worried about the 100MPH+ winds for a steady 12-13 hours and Tornadoes that will come. I will be flying down to Hobby Airport later today from Hooks to help some freinds hangar their airplanes. If we drove it'd take us 12 hours to get home!
I'll take some photos from the air and post them so you'll be able to see the mess we have!

Hurricane Clips...

You can use regular screws if you have a frame house, or wood aroud the windows. I have a brick home and double-pane metal windows. There is no wood around the windows to screw into the building. A Hurricane clip is a "Z" shaped metal clip that one side goes on your plywood, and other side presses on your brick.
When you push the wood up against the glass, the "teeth" on the clip dig back into the brick holding the wood in place. They work really well! Without these you can drill into the brick, but it's time consuming messy and leaves unattractive marks on the home.
Good news, Rita is now down to a 4 and looks like she will only be a 3 when she arrives. That means only 70-90 MPH winds up where I am, unless a tornado comes, but that's always a crap shoot.
Here are the photos I took a few hours ago from our airplane.
This is US 249 Northbound, while almost nobody is going south!
Please pardon my thumb!

My prayers and best wishes to everyone in East Texas and also in Minneapolis...We have room here in Tucson if anyone comes this way....

And this is..

Here is West Houston Airport that normally doesn't have many planes there. Today it's filled up with families, luggage, pets, kids, and lots of luggage! Your can tell from the photo that we have already started our take off run.

On a westward turn, now we're getting fairly far out on the east side of the projected path, who knows if it'll hold.

Town is shut down, everything closed, road traffic is light. Houston NBC affiliate has been running a scroll that Wharton County is under *mandatory* evac order ... and Matagorda County is under *voluntary* evac. That surely seems backwards. But, I understand the mayor here has lifted the 'mandatory' evac order for EC, not that it matters at this point with anybody who is leaving already gone. Rumors that a few small 'gangs' have been sighted apparently canvassing neighborhoods in a nearby town. Dunno.

Last night there was a stream of traffic coming up Hwy 71, but that is over. I did see some people obviously coming through on evac from points east, side-tracking through town from Hwy 59 freeway, looking for gas. One convenience outfit was open, but no gas. A service station little further down the road is closed, but self-serve pumps apparently are working. That's just what I saw when coming through town to the office from granny's side.

Few more preps to do this evening. Plan to fetch ice from the theater tomorrow, perhaps use the DishDrawer for extra ice capacity.

Interesting path Rita's taking so far...I'm still wondering how it will affect Galveston, Houston, and of course here.

Hwy 36 (stretches through Bellville) this morning was covered with cars coming from Houston through Hempstead, possibly going through Brenham to Austin. Officers directing traffic had apparently been working since 4 (I saw this at 10:30). I haven't had any reason to go up there now, but I'm willing to bet that it's just as crowded as it was earlier today. It's just insane...I'll be glad when it's all over!

Rita's Path

It looks like she is going to come straight up between the okla. ark. border. Weather man said that she may stall over the okla. ark. area dumping 15 to 16 inches of rain. Amazing forces of nature.

All dem cajuns is movin out

Looks like us here in Cajun country are gonna get some tropical and hurricane force winds here. The lower parishes below hwy 90 are being evacuated in case of flooding and high winds. Thankfully, we're living further north so we might get wind and rain but not the destruction.
