"See how the handles are needlessly ornamental and overdone? That's how you know you're fancy! It's just a thing you pull on to open the door, but because you have so much culture and stuff, you can have curlicues and swirls all over it! Otherwise, people would think you're a tasteless loser, right?"

Hahaha! That's fantastic!

Hahahah!!! I have a new...

"Go-to" blog. I am not even a blog follower or fan. But this one, I think I will miss if it ever goes away. SO damned funny ;D

...made a mistake in their purchase...

Probably within 5 years, whirlcool! I know that I have not seen one in person since at least 1975. And I keep my eyes peeled (not that I would buy one...unless it was their "chinese dragon" model. Would bet most of these "fancy" fridges were in landfills before 1980.

Interior styles and design really don't mean a darn thing to me.  But I remember this style.  Now I like it.  It's heavy, in your face, masculine.  I remember custom kitchens in Spanish style houses with this type of cabinetry and subtle hardware on doors and drawers.  That's the kitchen this belonged in.

Its "FUGLY!!!"Probably not in landfills-but bet these fridges were relegated to the basement or garage when a NEW one was bought to replace it!Never cared for that style-guess it was popular in the 60's and 70's.Course you have to have the "carved" front kitchen cabinets to match--those ones carved by "artizans" of years past!Or-if the fridge didn't make it to the garage, basement or curb--it was given to some unfavored freind or relative that thought it was BEAUTIFUL!!

I could see that kind of refrigerator in a spanish motif style home with a tall slanted ceiling in the kitchen, that terra cotta mexican tile floor, and dark carved cabinets. That style seemed pretty popular down here. I imagine it was popular in California too around the early 70s. It would go well with Poppy GM appliances.

I don't understand the dislike for it? Probably not my first choice in terms of style, but at least it was something different. I walked through an appliance department the other day when I had to kill a little time waiting to pick up a friend from their job nearby.

BOOORRRIIINNNGGG!

I noticed that GE was bragging about their new "color".... It looks like painted stainless steel. Big whoop.
