Mmmmm . . .

When I was little my grandmother in east Texas made the best pecan pies from pecans that grew right on the farm. However, I was really crazy about her cocoanut cream pie topped with plenty of meringue, most likely whipped up in the Mixmaster. All baked in the Roper oven of course. She would have heartily approved of your dinner, and that's saying a lot!

Wow!  I'm impressed!  It all looked great and then went over the top with rhubarb pie, a real favorite of mine.

Hans, what was the occasion, if I may ask?

My Goodness!

Hans that brings back memories for me, this is what my Grandma's kitchen looked like every Sunday. She would start working a little bit on Friday, then did most of it Saturday night or Sunday morning, then just put the final touches on after church.  I definetly need to eat at your house sometime!

I guess my invitation must have gotten lost in the mail. :-(  Oh well, maybe next time! lol

Seriously Hans, your spread makes the dinner party I hosted 9/16 look absolutely miserly.  Fantastic job!!!

RE occasion...

Donald collects Vintage Christmas lights, a couple of his friends who collect came to visit from South Carolina, so we invited some friends from around here, it ended up eight people, I fixed enough for about 15!lol.

We haven't done a spread like that for eons. What I really miss too are the leftovers the next day for lunch or dinner, heck even breakfast all fried up .
My partner calls it a scrump dinner,, that's the term they used in Newfoundland

No doubt about it -- everyone left well-fed.

I have Admiral's version of that Zenith radio.  Those Zeniths command a good price these days.  That's why I ended up with my Admiral instead, but it provides great sound and has a red triangular jewel light too!

Greg Was Correct

This is the essence of Southern Hospitality. No one ever goes home hungry for lack of choices. If its in a casserole or a pie pan its already looking good to me before it gets baked. Amazing work of the finest gift God gave us, hospitality.

Inspiration At It's Best

Hans - you never cease to inspire good things. So many of your recipes, menus, and those of others on AW frequently influence my menus and meal plans. You've done it again! With life being so hectic and complicated, often I forget how much joy comes from preparing and sharing such a meal that communicates love, friendship, and community.
Thanks for sharing!
