I'm just wondering......

I have a teflon coated electric fry pan that I've had for years.
Its about 12" square (with rounded corners and a high top lid).
Are these safe to put into a dishwasher to clean?

I usually just plunge it into a sink full of hot soapy water (I use Dawn dish detergent) to scrub it and then let it air dry.

I'm just wondering if putting it in the dishwasher with Cascade Complete would ruin the shiny finish on those connector thingys that plug into the temperature setting thingy.

I've washed other teflon coated pans in the dishwasher with no problems and stainless steel is fine too but I just don't know about electric fry pans.

This is the question you get because I decided to make corn fritters and share them with my neighbors.
LOL

Been doing it for the last 20 years.....

I stuck my immersible electric soup kettle in the DW.

Is it SAFE to do it? YES

Did it emerge as pristine and lovely as it went in?
NO. The DW detergent faded the metal shielding piece over the power inlet prongs. [The male that fits into the thermostatic (female)and power (flex) cord].

Would I do it again?
Probably not.

What Dano said.

Depending on their thickness and quality, dishwashers (dishwasher detergents are actually the culprit) can shorten the lifespan of Teflon coatings. But this probably won't be an issue if your fryer is a decent brand and not a no-name China special.

I never noticed.......

that this is a Sears "Counter Craft" brand.
I don't know if thats one of the better ones or not.
I've had it for about 15 years now.
I flipped it over and it does say "Immersible" on it.
I guess it should be ok for the dishwasher then.

Thanks guys

Even regular pots and pans are so quick and easy to wash by hand, why use up space in the dishwasher? There's plenty of regular stuff to load it with.

The dishwasher will shorten the life of all things plastic. Your plastic spatula will get brittle and snap in half after it's been throught the dishwasher enough times.

I guess I'm not a "Bob loader".

Stainless pots and pans come out really nice in the dishwasher. I think it keeps the grease/ stains off the bottoms better. My stainless if over 20 years old, (the Cuisinart with the stainless handles the they look like new. The bottoms of the pots and pans stay nice and shiny from the dishwasher. Of course if there is something really stuck or burned on you would have to scrub first. But. I always finish them in the dishwasher. The dishwsher detergent and really hot water do a much better job than hand washing.

stainless yes aluminum no

Stainless steel washes fine in a D.W. BUT...aluminum will discolor terribly after a while, to start with it will whiten, then gradually turn dark,I am not one of the health nuts who are afraid of aluminum...but I use mostly stainless because I hate to wash dishes.

I agree with Chuck. I put stainless steel pots only in the diswasher. I would not put aluminum. I do not have aluminum pots, but I do have an aluminum ice cream scoop, and someone was helping clean up and put it in the dishwasher. It came out all grey and pitted, I threw it out.
