You know... Italy is in the Mediterranean Sea, the east side we call Adriatico, the west side we call Tirreno, the one near Greece we call Ionio and the rest is only Mar Mediterraneo...

When I was young I spent several hours of my afternoons looking at the sudsy wash trhough the windowed lid of my Sangiorgio FL, since we have been taken it apart using the new Whirlpool TL. I saw the sea the first when I was a few days, and that show fascinated me a lot... waves...water... suds... the sound of water on the cliff...I try to find every day whether the washing-machine can imitate the sea... somehow it gets it quite...

I've been abroad only few times: 2-3 times in France, which is very near from where I live, and once of those was in Paris, then I've been in Swiss only twice, once to Malta and once to Praga...You see I didn't travel alot... but if you pay attention to the palce I've mentioned, you found that

I haven't seen the ocean...

Is it so big? Is it so sudsy? Do the waves beat so hard on the cliff that you can think to a very VERY BIG BOBLOAD?

How would I like to sea the ocean.. :-))
And you...Have you ever seen the ocean?

Where I spent Spring of 2006

Hi Diomede,
The ocean is my favourite place in the world. I could have become a beach bum! There is nothing like the powerful roar and the romance of the oceans. When I take a vacation, it has to be somewhere at or near the ocean.

When I die, my remains are to be cremated and the ashes sprinkled into the ocean.

Maui

Here is a beautiful shot of Maui, Hawaii from the Four Seasons Resort. I highly recommend this hotel and the location! Perfect!

Nice picture Heather!

I highly recommend Maui too! That is pretty close to the beach were we spend every sunday-except this one. Dennis has an ear infection and must avoid sun due to the medication, so we are painting the kitchen instead. So much for the ocean....

Maui

We drove the entire circumference around the Island. Talk about some crazy roads! Never again will we try that. This picture is from the far east side of the island. It is amazing to see how different the 2 sides of the island are.

We drove all around Oaho and Kauai a couple years ago. That was fun and the roads were fine.

It must be heaven to live there and be with the one you love. :)

PS-Hope Dennis is feeling better soon. Ear infections are no fun. My son has had 2 sets of tubes put in his ears because he gets so many infections. They recently fell out so he probably has to have another surgery again. Sad because he's not even 4 yet!

It's something I guess I take for granted. Richmond is only about 100 miles from the ocean, and it wasn't anything for a few friends and myself to take a road trip in the van down to the beach for a day. I went to college in Norfolk at ODU, and was even closer during those 4 years. It was just a quick 30 minute drive down the VA beach expressway. When an offshore tropical storm or hurrican came near, I would take off to the outer banks of North Carolina with my surfboard in the back to catch some swell.

...now, I've always wanted to see the Mediterranean sea! I'd love to take one of those Club Med sailing cruises, or visit some of the French beaches on the Med.

I couldn't live anywhere that wasn't a short drive from the beach. I can be in Santa Cruz in under 1/2 an hour. There is a clothing optional private beach and campground north of town and you don't need reservations 6 months in advance like for state parks--indeed, they don't even take reservations--so that's where my partner and I go camping. We can decide spur of the moment based on the weather forecast, throw our gear into the car and be on our way and head "over the hill" to the coast, confident that a campsite will be available. I feel very lucky to have nearly instant access to such a spectacular coastline.

Diomede, if you ever get to Big Sur, I recommend stopping at Nepenthe for an "ambrosia burger" and an unforgettably spectacular ocean view.

Thanks for the pics

Thanks for the wonderful pics!!!!! certainly brightened my day. I'm 7 hours from the gulf...it's not nearly as pertty as the pics..but it's salt water and sand. I usualy take a trip to Galveston Tx..but because of the gas prices and lodging I decided to skip the annual pilgramage....really missed the sounds and smells of the beach.

I grew up near the ocean

When I was a child up until the age of 10, my family lived in Maryland on the little peninsula that is between the Chesapeake Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. We used to drive over to Chincoteague Island every year for the carnival and pony drive. We also spent nearly every weekend there, crabbing and being beach bums. When I was 10, we moved to California. My step father joined the army and we were stationed at Fort Ord, Ca. After his 4 years were served, we moved to Salinas. I spent all my pre-teen and teen years at Santa Cruz boardwalk and all the beaches in between Salinas and Santa Cruz. Week ends were the beach for me. I absolutely love that part of California. Monterey,Carmel, Pebble Beach and Pacific Grove are so beautiful. I live so far from the ocean now, it's a dream of mine to own beach property. I truly do miss it.

Sounds a bit like my summer as a child Christie. Except I didn't spend it on the eastern shore, but in Deltaville VA in the lower part of the Chesapeake Bay. Like you, I've spent lots of summers crabbing, fishing, sailing, swimming and all sorts of other fun stuff. One of the fun things I enjoy doing was late at night, laying on the bow of the boat, watching the rockets launch from NASA's Wallops Island near Chincoteauge....about 30 miles away directly, but if you wanted to drive there, it would be at least a 150 mile journey from Deltaville!

I've been to Chincoteauge a few times, and I've really loved it. It's a great little secluded down that is devoid of all teh sprawl and development that typically invades beach towns. Some friends and I camped out at Tom's Cove Park campground there on the Island, and I've also been there with my family a few times too. I remember renting these little yellow fiberglass boats one time that were covered in sea weed. The boats would barely do about 5 knots with their little 10 HP motors, but we caught a HUGE cooler full of fish that day from flounder to black bass, and even stripers!

I haven't been to any west-coast beaches in my lifetime either. I've always wanted to get over there, at least to try out the surfing!

Mint, keep dreaming. You can't even find a shack on or near the beach for under $1 million. I've resigned myself to this: If I ever manage to own a second home near the beach, it's going to be in a trailer park somewhere. I'll simply never be able to afford anything else.

I spent a lot of time during my teen years in Pebble Beach at a friends's place there. I don't think there's a more beautiful spot in the world, although a yurt in Big Sur does come close. Hope you get back out here someday to enjoy it again Mint.

I've seen and swum in the Atlantic, the Pacific (chillier), and the Gulf of Mexico (warm). Also seen the Inner Sea of Japan, and the ocean around the Hawaiian Islands.

The most agitated water I've seen was when we were sailing around the Farallone Islands, which lie about 25 miles due west of San Francisco. Really a roiling mix of white, green, turquise, blue, and black. I'm really glad we didn't shipwreck there; the waters are infested with great white sharks (which hunt the sea lions). I don't think I'd like a front loading washing machine to duplicate that scene...
