This blew into Sydney at approximately 4:00am today. I've experienced this in the outback, but never in town. I am so glad I don't line dry.

I had to pick today

And I had to pick today of all days,(day off from work you see.),to scrub our kitchen cupboards and behind the fridge in order to spray and put down baits for cockroaches as we are coming into the warmer months, so he we were with the house closed up because of the dust storm and spraying long lasting surface spray around, and actually we have only just finished at 3.30pm after we started at 9.30am this morning,oh well! at least it is done for another 6 months or so.

Scary

Well I was meeting with a provider today in my office and he said - I think you should turn around Steve - it's pretty bad out there... Holy moly! That last time I looked out my office window - I could actually see the sun - and across the street!!! It was phenomenal!!! I'm in Fortitude Valley and I've never seen anything like this in the city!!!

My husband suffers from chronic asthma - so needless to say - tonight is a very busy night - just finished damp wiping everything in the house (left a couple of windows open!!) and vacuuming every square inch of the house... Exhausted - and the worst part - the cleaning lady comes tomorrow! Guess she's got an easy job...

Husband is barely able to breath - and I'm thinking a trip to the ER tonight is probably on the cards...

Both cars are completely feral everything is gross and gritty feeling - and looks like we'll be spending the weekend with the pressure washer cleaning the outside of the house as well!!!!

Anyone wanna help?? LOL! Do you best though folks to try and keep out of it - as it will do some pretty serious damage to your lungs!

Cheers
Steve.

Winds usually blow from west to east.

This time Perth will be safe, but don't worry, you may have better luck next time.

Check out the short video from Broken Hill - and we reckon we've had it bad. At least it didn't go pitch black. That stuff is like baby powder. It gets in through the tiniest openings. Apparently in some parts of NSW the dust storm combined with rain, which fell as mud.

All in all I thought this was quite a spectacular way to start the day, albeit in an eerie kind of way. My sinuses are still giving me sass.

Apparently there is an upside to this - dust storms are supposedly good for the ocean. They provide nutrients and minerals that help to replenish the oceanic food chain. Thus no fishy will go hungry in 2010.
