Nothing beats the smell of line dried linens & clothing. They really smell great, and they freshened up the whole house with the aroma. The snow melted just enough yesterday for me to finally get at the wash lines. I had it all on the line by 2:15pm, and took it down at 6:00, there was a nice breeze all day.

I also hung laundry outside yesterday.
I will all year regardless of the temps if it is really cold I partially dry in the dryer first, if snow is on the line I just brush it off. I love the smell and feel of bed linens fresh off the line, bath towels too.
Soon spring will be here and I will be able to hang my scrubs and lab coats out too ad I will enjoy that freshness all day while being surrounded with all the hospital smells.

I got Monday and Tuesday off, I am planning on getting all of my wash out on the line in the morning, and also will empty out the dresser drawers and wash everything and hang them out to get fresh and clean!

Me, too! I did pillow cases, pillow slips, white t-shirts, and white dress shirts on Saturday.

Boy, do those smell great after a long, long winter. Can't wait to do that more often!

:-)

Smokey clothes?

The problem I have is my neighbors burn their fireplaces and it seems like the smell of the smoke always settles on the clothes and then I have to rewash them. Anyone else notice this?

I remember as a kid my mom hanging white sheets out in the winter and letting them freeze. She claimed it made white clothes brighter if they froze... lol.. it was so cool watching those big frozen sheets try to blow in the wind.

There is nothing like getting into a freshly made bed with sheets and pillow cases that have been dried outdoors. Especially if you iron those pillow cases!!! I remember those sheets from back in January Greg!!!

Was about to post something similar - been very busy for last 3 weeks and done no laundry at all. Spent all day yesterday clearing it all and changing beds and stuff and have dried it all outdoors for the first time - smells divine!!

Hate to pee in everyone's Cheerio's, but I never liked the feel or smell of line dried clothes, sheets, or towels. They feel so stiff and scratchy. My best memories of line dried clothes is my grandmother (who hung everything outside or in the attic) cursing the birds who used her sheets for target practice. Her avocado green Maytag 606 dryer has literally only been used twice! (both by me!)

Bobby,

Try running them through the dryer for 10-15 mins., then hang them out. This will help cut down on that stiff & scratchy feeling. This fluffs up the fibers.

Bobby..I had to laugh..my mother being the proper southern lady..and a baptist at that...would cuss like a sailor when she hungs daddy's white shirts out and birds would poop on them..either way..it's a good memory of my mom..I think of that story almost everytime I hang something out doors to dry.

Tim, This is what I do, at least for the flannel sheets, and on rare occasion the towels. The T-shirts and light clothes dry very nice. They actually smell the best in the winter when the FREEZE. Nothing beats the smell of fresh clean laundry.

Oh how I miss hanging out clothes. My landlord said I could put in a clothes line, when I first moved into the house. Soon after that I realized in would be pointless. I am next door to a concrete/redi-mix company and with all their large trucks coming in and out of the place and stirring up dust the clothes would be dirty before they ever dried. Sometimes the dust is so bad I can't see across the street. When I lived with my mother her and I always hung clothes out dry. I especially loved the smell of sheets and pillow cases when they were line dried.

wow i hanged my clothes out yesterday, today and i am doing it tomorrow! since its not below freezing and not humid i took advantage and it smells so nice i really love the feeling of sheets especially crispy and clean mmmmmm and my comforters too!!! why is it that the sheets do feel better after they have been hang dried as oppose to putting them in the dryer?

tomorrow is the final 2 white loads the mix of towels, socks and washcloths then all the white T shirts!!!!! and done!!!
