I just got an unusual top-loading dishwasher!

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

John, that's exactly what I thought! And at least, Frigidaire probably thought they could sell  their rebranded starters through their dealer network (and I bet they didn't sell many either!). D&M didn't even sell their dishwashers under their own names, they were private labeling their own products to sell to other brands. I thought their only signature was the shape of their tags, not the name on it!

Note that the tag on the 1968 dishwasher lacks the CSA approval, it's there on my 1965 DW-STJ. It's strange since I got this machine in Canada and it's a model that was sold here.

Wow Phil, this is an amazing find!  I miss so much when I'm off the grid down in Ogden... LOL

I've got to get to your place to see this one soon.  Congratulations!!

I just tried not to pre-rinse anything that went in the dishwasher to see how it performed (not something I am used to do!), the dishes came out clean and dry even if I shortened the dry cycle!

I got some fog in the camera when I took pictures of the clean (and hot!) dishes. Not exactly a full load though but I had plates that I couldn't even try to fit in the 1963 spray tube dishwasher!

Phil, yes I am extremely proud of you.  Welcome to the wonderful world of carefree dishwashing.  I seriously doubt the spintube would have gotten this load clean.

Well the bloom is off the rose far as this top-loading DW

Owner is concerned. *LOL*

Having to shift things off the top and back to load and unload is getting on my nerves.

If one can find a nice Miele 18" unit and one of those Ikea "built in to portable" kits, the GE Mobile Maid may not be long for this world. *LOL*

After living with a top loading dishwasher for better part of almost two years now you can see why the design faded out and never was brought back.

Some top loaders are a bit more complicated to load as their top racks either need to have a section removed or folded (and left empty so it could be folded or removed easily) to load the lower rack.

But this design allows to lift the top racks easily without unloading them. What I don't like about portable dishwashers is that they need to be rolled to the sink and connected to it and to a wall outlet to operate. I'll probably change that eventually and connect it permanently!
