I wish to high Heaven I was a lawyer, because that site crosses so many lines...

I'm a media person and you do not put invented, highly derogatory quotes into a living celeb's mouth, even in the name of parody.

Lucy may have been a hog when it came to attention and she was a heavy consumer of whiskey,rum,and scotch but I seriously doubt that she was as severe an alcoholic as this individual claims she was.

It is just a spoof/parody site. Tasteless and obscene, but there you have it.

And I've seen similar in humor mags - such as the infamous various diaries (like Margaret Mitchell) published in the National Lampoon in the 70's.

In this country, once you become a public figure, certain expectations of privacy etc are lost, legally. I don't think that something clearly labeled as spoof, parody, and amusement can be tagged as libel or slander, although a sleazy lawyer could probably cost someone some $$$ by dragging them into court just for extended litigation.

Anyway, I happened across the site when searching for youtube style videos of Desi's "I Loathe Lucy" skit on SNL. But the NBC lawyers have been hyper-active in that arena, and apparently any such clips have been pulled for lack of prior authorization.

I'm a magazine editor and writer, and trust me, no responsible publication in this country would print some of what I saw on that site, for fear of suit. Trust me; staying out of trouble with libellous or slanderous statements is part of what I do for a living.

Can one sue from the grave?

I might be mistaken, but it seems to me that all the alleged contributions are from celebrities who are no longer with us.

Perhaps their estates can sue... but I'm not sure on what grounds...

Suds:

Ann-Margret, Sally Field and Lucie Arnaz are just three of the living celebrities I see named on that site who might have some grounds for concern. One mention of Ms. Arnaz in the "Ann-Margret" article is particularly offensive in a legal sense; both Ms. Arnaz and Ann-Margret might well have grounds here. There is also a mention of father-son incest in the same piece. These are not parody so far as the law is concerned.
