Hey guys, belt just broke on my dryer it's a old Maytag, from looking on the site it seems to be a DE308. However the actual model number on the dryers says: GDE308... I'm just making sure I don't order the wrong belt. None of the repair guys want to sell parts, they all want to charge me $250-300...and I had the whole thing apart in maybe 4 minutes lol.

Also, I noticed the wheels the drum sits on are super loose can I tighten them or just replace?

Will this work?

Thanks ahead of time!

belt replace on maytag dryer

This dryer is definitely worth fixing if all it needs is a new belt and some rollers. The kit looked correct for your dryer to me. The only thing I noticed is that it is not branded Maytag or Whirlpool(which bought out Maytag), so unsure as to the quality of the parts. I have had decent luck with parts like this in the past.

Thank you for the response!

So can you tighten the rollers? or should you just replace them? Also, out of curiosity...why do people like the old appliances? I do enjoy fridges from the 50's...so maybe I can understand. Does it come from a "They don't make them like the used to." state of mind? or is it nostalgia?

There is not a machine made today that will last. There is no comparison in construction and yes the old adage does apply here, they just don't make them like they used to. The new ones are disposable and most are not worth fixing when a problem occurs. Yes the rollers need to be replaced, they cannot be tightened. Some of the old appliances just have a nice style like the old vehicles.

Proof of old being better..

My 73 Lady Kenmore dryer dries at least one or two loads a day, on the weekend 5 or more, I have replaced the heating element one time and other than that, it just keeps on going, quietly, and the automatic control works perfectly!
