I need a new washing machine- Please Help

Comforters and my Fisher & Paykel

I have my down king-size duvet washed every few of years by the company that makes them ( Canada, and Dania Down). And it is about CAD 36.00. I have several covers, light cotton and bright colours for summer, heavy for winter, easy to launder.

I actually logged on again to add to my posts from late 2017 but cannot find them anywhere and this maybe useful to the OP.

I too have a narrow entrance to the laundry area and really no room in there for a front loader anyhow.

The terrific people here led me gently to a Fisher and Paykel 3927, their traditional agitator top loader. and I wanted to come back to say I am in LOVE with this machine. Thank you everyone!

And I see above comments about the noise from top-loading machines. This one is quiet, it is quick, it is efficient, it is even pretty. And it came with a promotion of a 5 year warranty.

All I wanted was a machine that worked. Now I am so enthusiastic I drag friends in to admire it.

Your posts probably vanished because the index page only shows what has been most recently active. If I recall right, there is only one index page per subforum for regular (non-upgraded) users like you. But everything does get archived.

Hello, all you beautiful washing machine gurus!

I am the poster who created this thread a year ago, washyume.

I never bought a new washing machine. I just didn't feel like spending the money, but now I'm ready for some retail therapy and my machine is throwing a LF code. I don't even care what it means, because I'm finally ready to get a new washer!

Are the LG WM3770 and MVWP575GW still viable options? Anything better?

Better is a loaded term. I would take a Miele anything over an LG, Maytag or Whirlpool. It would most likely not fall in your price range nor in your size requirement. We love ours and probably do more laundry than most (13 people in the house). We shove queen size sheets, comforter, etc in the W1 and they all come out clean. Once they are wet they don’t take up so much room.

But..... Theybare probably the most expensive washer on the market.

Have you looked at Electrolux? I don’t hear much if anything bad about them. They are full size machines, but probably cost more than all the others except Miele.

Speed Queen if you want a top loader. Would never own a top loader ever again, but that’s a personal preference.

I'll check out electrolux right now. Is it a good brand in The USA? I ask because earlier in this thread there was some negative talk about Miele in the USA.

Current options...

The Maytag MVWP575GW is still available, but we have also seen quite a few members getting Speed Queen commercial models that still use the old mechanism, the LWN432 that still has the mechanical timer and transmission. It lacks a water level switch, but so does the Maytag.

Electrolux is a decent brand in the USA. Their top end models has good feature and clean well. They at the top of the pack for build quality with probably only speed Queen and Miele beating them out.

What you read about Miele unthread is not true. We bought parts for our w4840 (drain pump) when it was a 13 year old model. It was in stock and we had it in four days. I bought a thermostat and a moisture sensing carbon brush for the T9802 dryer when it was a 12 year old model. Got the parts again in a few days and they were in stock. Miele guarantees parts a availability for 15 years after a model is discontinued.

If you call Miele directly and provide the part number I have not run into them not being able to get the part. Local service companies are more likely to tell you not available than to actually call Miele and ask.

The current washer and dryer models are sold all over the world and are virtually identical. I would not he worried about parts.

Also, my husband has done some measuring, and he says we can fit, and almost fully open, a front loader on a pedestal. Last year I was leaning TL, but now I'm leaning FL.

I'd still like to be able to wash a king comforter, but I'm also thinking about getting new bedding with a thinner batting than a comforter.

And since I didn't buy one last year, I have even mo money to spend on a new machine! In fact, I will be buying a washer AND its matching dryer.

Holy Moly! LG has an all-in-one washer and dryer. Model # WM3997HWA

It's ventless.

I think that one was discussed here before. Consider this portion of the review from Consumer Reports before deciding if it meets your needs.

I bought a FL eletrolux (EFLW317TIW), not the newest model. It works great!!!!

It didn't do a good job at cleaning my king comforter, so I bought new bedding, too. It didn't have any problem washing the 108" x 98" king comforter.
