Hello , I have a P7 GE range which seems to be stuck in self clean mode . My local appliance guy came by when the large oven stopped working altogether and tinkered with the wires, and when one of the capacitors( I think) started to smoke , disconnected the wire to it and called it quits.

Some time later(a month or so) I decided to turn on the oven again to see what would happen. It made a buzz and a flash and I quickly turned it off. Keeping an eye out the rest of the evening , I unplugged it overnight and went to bed.
The next morning , curiosity got the best of me and I turned it on again, and lo and behold , it heated up! But it didn't stop.... just kept getting hotter and hotter.

No one locally will even look at it, but is there someone out there that knows anything about this , has had a similar experience , or can give me any help whatsoever? I do not want to scrap this range , as it has a perfect working sensi- temp burner. I'm spoiled . It's going on a year now using only the small oven which works perfectly. Pretty hard on holidays.

Thanks for any information I can gather.

Early GE P7 oven problems

Hi Mary, it’s hard to know what went wrong without looking at your oven. It can be fixed. If you get somebody that’s good with electrical diagnosis, there are no capacitors in the wiring system of this oven. I’m not sure what the technician did when he looked at it.

He might’ve bypassed the oven sensor to see if you could get the oven to heat that would cause the oven to continue heating no matter what.

Are you located in Mexico? If so, about where maybe somebody can help you find someone that can work on this ,

John
