yes! again im buying a new machine no comment on the last machine its too embarrassing even to disgust why. My budget will be 900 pounds and i need some ideas on the best one to get which will actually last and not give me any problems for a long time, i was looking at the siemens IQ TOL range but im not sure, the reason why i am splashing out on a new machine is because i want something which is gonna be problem free with smooth operation for years to come but still offer me a large drum, fast spin and a silent at washing thats is very important of all.

i will appreciate every personal opinion.

For that price you can get a model with a free 10 year parts and labor guarantee.

The 6kg drum holds about as much washing as the majority of 8kg machines out there, the amount you can get in it is amazing! Even the brushed motor models are near silent in operation, and the models with induction motors completely silent.

Nothing will be as well made, perform as flawlessly, be as reliable or last you as long.

My Mum thought it was a lot to pay out for a washer when she got a W3204, but she now sees how good it is, it has saved her so much time and fuss, everything about it screams quality.

As Matt has already said, 'Miele' is the make to go for if you're looking for amachine in that price range, whihc will last a long time and be problem free.

Theres various models, you could possible get a mid range Miele in your price budget and also benefit with their 10 or 5 years free cover

Although siemens are nice too, don't think they're as well made as Miele.

If you don't mind me asking, i'm curious about what's happened to the aqualtis?

Waisting Time and Money

Absolutely if you can afford a Miele then get one, why waist time and money on anything else, all the glitter boxes in the world with their dubious and often useless features are no comparison to top makes like Miele who take a holistic approach to washing machine design and build, rather than adding silly and cheap features to a poor cheap design

I remember you asking about the Aqualtis machine and few of us that own them gave our thoughts on them, and I must admit i was surprised that you went ahead and bought one..............perhaps you can tell us what happened to it ;-)

Miele here too

Mine almost up to 8 years old and still running with out missing a beat. Load the clothes, put in the detergent, switch on and come back later to clean clothes. No fuss, no drama. Maybe not the quickest, but that subject has already had a good airing.

No need necessarily to spend £900 either, mine was just under £500 - a Comet special and they took the Miele upstairs (its in the bathroom) and took the 18 month old, no longer working AEG away.

save your £900 and look on ebay for a second hand Asko - saying that see if Mike can do you a deal on something good.

VZug may also be an option for you if you can get the right deal.

Also dont overlook a vintage machine say a Hoover Logic 1200/1300 if one can be sought, simple to repair and should last a while if overhauled properly. These machines also spin much better IMHO after playing around witht eh oens we own. THese pulsed and profiled spins seem to do a worse job I have personally found hence the need for faster spin speeds. I dont get the obsession with large capacity machines aside from washing duvets and to be really honest a £6-7 wash at the launderette every year or so aint really that bad in the long run than spend mega bucks on something you will only use for the feature once in a blue moon.

Not to mention that Duvets cost so little these days its hardly worth washing them.

Is noise really an issue? Most modern machines have noisy drain pumps which make more racket than the machine actually spinning. Even Miele owners have commented the pumps are quite strong when on they too also make a fair bit of noise.

Vintage machines do make a noise but not so much given you put them between cabinets in your average kitchen its hardly noticeable. The spin cycle is also relatively short too considering they dont mess around.

I've been looking at miele, Siemems, AEG and LG my girlfriend wants a top of the range LG because of the large drum im thinking about going up the miele route i kind of like this one but it looks so plain!

i was not planning to slash out on a new machine but my mum said something to me which made me rethink be because my mum has whirlpool duet heavy duty version and that machine is strong, and she paid over 900 pounds and it has been problem free ever since, she said buying cheap means you by twice so you are actually wasting money than saving.

You may think that now, but think that with a machine like that, you'd be expecting to have it a good 20 years.

In 20 years time, a "fashionable" LG will look hideously outdated and old-fashioned (probably more so than a 20 year old almond or beige machine does now), not that it will last anywhere near that long (I'd be absolutely amazed if one managed 10 years tbh).

The Miele is pretty timeless, the classic design machines sold now are very similar in styling to the machines they made well over 20 years ago, and are perfectly modern and stylish if you ask me.

If youre going to spend more than £550 then the only new machine worth bothering with is Miele. Siemens & (particularly) AEG are living off a badge from yesterday & arn't up there with Miele, and LG focusses too much on flashing lights & novelty programming for my liking. Why anyone needs programs to be called 'jeans' or 'shirts' is beyond me. Any washer over £550 should last a minimum 5 years i think, and a 5yr warranty is an indication that the manufacturer anticipates this, so be cautious over anything without. AEG have been quite good in this respect - they were giving 5yr parts & labour. This is good because, unlike Miele, you may well have to use the 5yr cover on a modern AEG, so it's kinda 'worth' more.

I don't think you'll get 20 years out of even a Miele - Miele can see how bad the other brands last (ie no more than 5-6 years & often less than 3) so theyre not gonna charge twice the price of an average brand & give you a machine that lasts 4 times as long - they want it to last just long enough to have a satisfied customer but not so long that they've gone bankrupt waiting for customers to buy again. I reckon 12 years will be about as much as you get out of a new Miele (dependant on use) - still perfectly reasonable on a cost per year basis, given how rubbish most other modern machines are in this respect, but not as long as people tend to presume of Miele.

Robs point about an older machine is still an option aswell. I guess it depends if youre happy to carry out abit of DIY or restoration on a machine to keep it tip-top, or whether you just wanna plumb it in & leave it for a few years.

Miele do seem pretty timeless, though particularly the ones that have the smaller door and conventional shape facia, rather than the new ones with the bigger plastic door. My only issue with getting one is i know i'd get bored after about 5 years & couldn't justify changing it whilst it's still working. On that basis i'd probably end up with an AEG, but for the circumstances you describe the AEG probably isn't the best option - tho i'd still favour it over LG (gimmicky) and Siemens (dull).

getting bored of a miele wouldn't be a problem as long it cleans and does the job well above average and does not give me any problems along the line of usage, and i see where you both coming from with miele design, about it still looking modern many years down the line and the LG looking hideous that was really eye opening i think the miele is winning me over now lol. by the way how many liters is 7kg on the miele washers compared to 9kg aqualtis which has 62liter drum?

i agree that best choice is Miele and the only nagative part is that il would be boring to use the same machine for the next 20 years!
"Basic" Mieles have a 54 liters drum for 6 kgs capacity; the same capacity is claimed by others brands for machines with 42 l. drums! No commment!
Even "basic" Mieles (6 kg and "only" 1200 rpm max speed) gurarantee good washing results with real different drum actions depending on the chosen program, and good unbalance and sudslock controls.

Miele drum volumes

5kg: 48l

6kg: 54l

7/8kg: 59.5l - the difference being that the 8kg models have longer and cycles calibrated towards a "more stuffed" load for want of a better phrase.

 

If you want to go the Miele route, ~£8-900 maybe an extra £50 can get you the 5740, a good allrounder, 7kg drum, variable temperature.

 

A shame you can't get the really good deals like you could a few years ago - I managed to get my TOL at the time machine for half it's RRP at £600 - Miele have tightened their fists of late and are regaining more control of where, how and how much their machines are sold for compared to 5 or so years ago, whether this is a good or bad thing depends on one's personal view.

 

If you were to go the BSH route, I'd probably look no further than the Bosch variants, same as the Siemens IQ models bar the fascia and a white instead of a silver trimmed door, but at a much more realistic price.  You can get the Exxcel 7k models for the late 300s at some places, equivalent Siemens versions retail at £600-700.  Liam also mentioned the AEG route - sell for a bit more than an equivalent Zanussi but the free 5 year warranty is an incentive.

I love how you lot bash LG. I'll tell you now mine was the best machine i've had in years and i'd still have it if my ex hadn't kept it when we split.

It was on 2-3 times a day with steam washing for a family of 4 and was in a polite term blasted heavy to lift. You could wash 7kg WEIGHT of clothes in a 1hour and 10 minutes with steam on the Cotton quick programme and it lifted off every single stain a 1 and 2 year old can throw at without a single prewash.

I'm now forced back to my zanussi which is experiencing knackered bearings after 2years.

I wouldn't buy a miele myself. There just not for me. I think i'd prefer an asko obviously only way you'll get one of those is the maytag guize or LG or a TOL Siemens. Thankfully us all being different is what makes the world go round.

I try not to let others opinions phase my choices. I've just written electrolux a long e-mail expressing my disappointment in my favourite brand and i'm currently searching for a mid to top end machine with a fault I can fix and give me some decent service and results...and guess what folks...it may even be an LG or an Aqualtis :-o

I agree with Darren, because I have one LG myself which I use daily, it's a 7.5kg 1200 spin WM12220FD and it's around 5 years old now, not a single problem and we always use max spin. We love it as it's quiet and the shower spray works well too.

Also my aunts Hotpoint ultima WMA76 gave up after 7-8 years so she decided to get an LG F1479FDS6 9kg, 1400 spin, in black with steam. We love the machine, it's extremely quiet, fairly quick for the amount it washes and performance is amazing. It's on 3-5 times a day with them being a big household. I wouldn't getting one when my dyson packs up, the 11kg model intrigues me, has the same sized drum as my dyson hehe so seems like a good option

Aqualtis, I actually like them, especially the silver 1600 spin 9kg model with steam.

Everyone sure does have their own preferences, like my dyson, it's around 10 years old, still going strong with only one problem over the years. It's on once or twice daily, with max spin all the time. People criticised it a lot, I actually love it so bought it and i'm still happy with it. Time to unload the duvet now...

Well, I don"t exactly know what you want, but I think nice choice for you would be and 870pound Miele W1914 7kg 1400rpm.. although If you want more as here people say "cheap stuff -.-" you can get a machine from any other brand with all possible and impossible stuff that exist for that money
