Sunbeam juicer bowl... BROKEN!!!!!!!!11

I bought off of E-Bay a Sunbeam juicer bowl for my 7B. It arrived poorly packaged, and broken. Thankfully, I wanted all of the other parts. But I let the seller know that the packing was poor. What a waste!!!

Not eBay, but sickening

I bought a Sunbeam Model 10 from a Vero Beach store, with its original bowls, for less than ten dollars. It sat for a year or more on the counter with no problem, until one day I found two v shaped chunks out of each bowl. Either the victim of a cat, or the roommate, in one of her Mansonesque oogabooga breakdowns. They went to recycling and happily, I found two bowls locally within a week.

Newspaper. It was not enough cushion.....

Then the packer didn't use enough. It's that simple. Plus, it sounds as though the machine wasn't prepped properly for packing to begin with. I'll be listing a hand crank machine tonight or tomorrow, and will post pix of what I do to pack it with.... paper grocery bags and newspaper. I'll try to remember to title it, "packing example."

I do use bubble wrap, but not for anything large or heavy. I use it more for smalls, or for putting between things, like the Pyrex nesting bowls I sold last week.

Something you might not know- if you wrap bubble wrap too tightly you take the "spring" or shock-absorbtion out of it and it could transfer shock and damage an item. This is especially true of the encapsulated bubble- that with a smooth layer on both sides. It's not likely to harm something small or light like a figuring or a vase, but could do harm to the large and heavy.

Something you might not know- if you wrap bubble wrap too ti

This happened to me five years ago.with another piece of Hofbauer crystal. The seller packed everything well, but they stretched the bubblewrap so tightly that the tension broke the crystal.

One other complaint I have with packing: Only one or two pieces of tape is necessary to hold the bubblewrap in place on the wrapped object. I receive a lot of stuff where the seller basically takes the roll of tape and completely covers the entire surface of the bubble wrapped item. This makes it a royal pain to remove, increasing the likelihood of damaging the object (or of cutting your fingers).

Another Packing Complaint:

If you are packing an appliance with foam or starch peanuts, fa goodnitz sake, put it in a plastic bag first!

Pieces of styrofoam will get inside anything that has cooling slots on it if you don't do this, and in the case of vacuum cleaners, whole peanuts will end up inside. So good for appliance motors!

I got my TriStar CXL vacuum from a very fine seller who otherwise gave me exemplary packing and service, but who put the machine into the box without plastic-bagging it against styrofoam intrusion. It took complete disassembly of the machine, including canister and power nozzle, to get it all out.

Wise and valid points about bagging styro and lightly taping

But isn't ferreting out wayward pieces of styrofoam from the new2you vacuum's orifices and channels half the fun? Before turning it on? And then blowing out the hose so you can watch the cats chase the bits around the room?

Ok maybe not but I always take that precaution...

Another reason to bag loose styro peanuts is the accumulated static charge that causes styro to fly out and stick to everything...and once laboriously grasped in hand, repel right back out of the collection bag & shipping box when you reach for them. That's when I get out the Filter Queen...

Most delightful packing job I ever opened.

In this case however I was grateful for the care taken. The seller went above and beyond my recommendations to protect this treasured beauty - a stellar 1959 Garland Green Hoover Constellation Model 87 with working electric hose.

takes the roll of tape and completely covers the entire surf

Oh, you've received mummified goods too?!! I especially hate it when that happens, and the goodie is in a cardboard box beneath the bubble! Time for a fresh razor blade and a steady hand!

Tim (BugsyJones), looks like the sewing machine I was talking about will go off successfully in about 10 minutes. So I'll be sure to start a new thread with pix to show how I pack something large, heavy, and fragile. If it's not in the next couple of hours, it'll be tomorrow. Titled, "packing example." Comments welcomed!
