I picked up the 1-18 today and It's missing the Agitator Cap,Lint Filter and Timer Knob.

I picked up the 1-18 today and Noticed that the timer knob was missing! Does anyone have a Extra one? I have talked to HippieDoll and gave her my shipping address for the agitator cap but I still have not heard from her. Does anyone have a timer knob laying around or do I have to make my own? Also does anyone have a lint filter laying around? The machine it self is in good condition. The Torque Spring is not broken and it's not too rusty but the tub brake has seemed to disappear or have weakened because the machine almost coasts to a stop. Any Suggestions?

1-18 Frigidaire Washer

This washer does not have a torque spring but it does have a brake, often on these machines the brake goes out of adjustment and it does not work properly and just coasts to a stop, this really does not hurt the overall operation of the washer and it can be tricky and difficult to fix the brake.

 

The lint filter is nearly useless on these machines and again it will work well without it, A timer knob would be nice however.

 

How is the washer working otherwise ? Have you hooked up and washed many loads yet ?

At your #4 timer picture, and I don't see the red arrow?
I can't think right now how the knob is, but I think there's supposed to be a red arrow? And I think the skirting is the part (the timer knob skirt) that has the red arrow on it. And i think it's that skirting that you also adjust the position of the arrow, with those little teeth (if I'm remembering correctly?)?

I've got to switch out the Maytag with the Frigidaire one of these days, then I can get a better look at how the timer knob is.

@john Lefever (Combo52). I just picked it up today and the craigslist guy got me 2 buckets of water and I put it in the MINI water level and it agitated. I then went to trial and error and put the timer to SPIN and it kicked out all the water about the same speed as my 1982 Kenmore. I ended up paying $30 for it. I'm trying to find a Timer knob and I found one but I'm not paying 30 bucks for it. Also I sent you a Email about the Calypso Touchpad.

All fixed and now it just needs a cleaning

I was able to mark the spot on the timer where it is at. I noticed the guy said he did not have running water and I saw a rain barrel. but I turned on a spicket and it ran water. I figured out why he said that. the water valve was stuck open but I took it apart and there was a rock in it. I then removed that rock and now it's as good as new! All I have to do now is give it a shot of Sodium Percarbonate (Affresh) or take it apart and clean it.

does anyone know how to remove the stuck bolt without exploding the agitator off with a hammer or putting a firecraker in it? I Tried everything I could think of. IMPACT large leverage. is there any other way? or should I not take this apart. I don't want to damage the bellow/boot.

You don't want to damage the whole mechanism!

If you twist that Jetcone you can kiss the machine goodbye.  You need a can of PB Blaster, you need to soak that nut for several days so that it gets up under the nut between the nut and agitator. Then with a LONG  handled socket _ 10 to 15 inch handle , slowly apply pressure over and over until the nut gives. This is the only way out.

Removing The Agitator Nut In A 1-18 FD Washer

You need to heat the nut very hot, boiling water will not do it.

I always take a propane torch turned low and invert it and heat the nut till it begins to smoke a little and it will come right off.

This is tricky to do as some propane torches do like to burn upside down, and you need to be careful not to melt the plastic agitator. But I have done this successfully at least 20+ times.

Don't make the mistake I did - I used an electric impact wrench to try to remove the nut and broke the bolt.  I got the JetCone out but....  

 

I enlisted the help of a fellow collector who is stronger than I am the next time I tried this - I have the strength of an 8-year-old at the best of times.

I hate taking those damn nuts off.  They never should have used such a thing.  The old I bolts on the early Unimatics is so much easier.
