Geez. I never seem to do anything right.

Okay, so here's your typical Mid-Life Crisis:

1. Run away to Tahiti
2. Buy a sporty convertible
3. Get a young mistress.

Here's how I'm doing it:

1. Running away to Indiana.
2. Buy a 12-year-old GrandpaMobile
3. I don't even want to THINK about how I'm going to screw up this one!

Well, so it's a half-assed Mid Life Crisis, but what am I going to do? I woke up one morning and decided I was going to get a Town Car. It's the only non-sensible car I've ever liked, and even then, only a few years.

Fast-forward one week and there I am, filling out paperwork and forking over some cash. Yeah, people see me coming, think "Grandpa" and get out of the way. But I always get 1.5 lanes to myself ;)

This one is a '94 Signature Series with 108K miles. Been getting 19.5 MPG combined city/highway with the AC on.

Never had a car with so many gadgets and automatic thingies. The seats move in directions that haven't even been invented yet.

Well, so there you have it. Did I need a second car? Nope. Could I afford it? Well, yeah. Would the money have been better spent elsewhere? Definitely. Do I allow (ugh) logic to ever rear its ugly head?

Nosirree.

I guess the next step is to get bald and paunchy.

veg

Oh, and P.S. The handicapped thingie is for Mom.

Veg

I don't know you but it's a great car and if it's what you have dreamed of for awhile then by all means, get it. Just don't get a mistress. That's more money down the drain than any car requires and it's not very nice if you are married. Think of you car as your mistress! A "little" paunch is okay and if you go bald keep the rest of your hair short. It's a hot look. Combovers however, are not!

Veg, as long as you keep your sense of humor, you will never get old! i drove a car just like that at work several years ago and its certainly comfortable. we now have the current model Town Car. im over 6ft tall and these sure are nice for stretching out in.

Lap of Luxury

I used Town Cars as a work car. My average mileage was 1,500 per week.
My first Lincoln was a 65 with Suicide Doors. I was hooked for life. My last one was a 99.

My favorite ammenities are lights that turn themselves on and off and I never have to think about it.

Climate control you set at 75 and never adjust again as long as you own the car. Just like a thermos it will know how to keep hot things hot and cold things cold.

I usually drove them to 275,00 and then began looking for a "new" one with 100,000. I pocketed a 675.oo car allowance and never worried about mileage on a leased car like my coworkers. I usually paid 3,500 to 5,000.

Sit back in rich Corinthian Leather and enjoy.

Don't be an idiot,

Veg.

Drive it in good health.

Slap some Sinatra in the cd playa, put a nice big iced coffee in the cup holder, and just enjoy the thing.

Life is too short to be always wondering about other peoples's opinions. In my opinion, that is!

Nice wheels Veg!

My parents have a similar 1997 model, with maybe 60k miles on it?

I drive one of its cousins, a 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis GS. I learned to drive on a large car(1978 Buick Electra) and have always owned one. The smallest car I've ever had was my 2001 Ford Taurus, nice car, and on a whim I bought the Grand Marquis. They are great cars!

Hey Veg,

If it butters your muffin, go for it. I have buried two friends in the last year...and come THAT close to losing my parents. Do it, and do it now...'cause tomorrow is an illusion and yesterday is gone.
Just, don't fasten your (plaid, polyester) pants over your belly-button, please?
Keven (who's fantasy is a 65 Mustang cabriolet in Chestnut with the beige interior)

Mid Life Crisis

What a pretty car! That should be fun to drive around in. I just did one of the three things you listed under a typical midlife crisis but I didn't realize that's what I was doing. I will go out kicking and screaming!! LOL

WOOPS! Isn't getting old a bitch!

You are talking to the wrong guy

if you think I am going to knock your choice. Of course, this comes from a guy with a 69 Cadillac, a 64 Old Starfire and a 61 Pontiac Station Wagon in his fleet, so I am plenty out there already.

You will enjoy that car for many years. Plus cheap insurance, cheap parts, and the ability to accrue high mileage and still drive nice!

Excellent!

one of the trademarks of a MLC is a dramatic change of appearance. such as weight loss, or change of hairstyle. Veg, does this apply to you?

Ut oh

I am putting 2+2 together, and without spillin some cawfee beans....
I am thinking we are going to have a new Veg...soon.

Oooooooooooh I just know I know what is going to happen.

Go to the light Smoofy...you will be "otay".

I love it Veg. My dream cars as a kid were either a Caddy or a Lincoln some day while everyone else was dreaming of Camaros or Mustangs etc. not me so I ended up with a beautiful 75 225 coupe we bought as a year end demo. If I only still had it.
Now about the MLC extreme makeover...white or cream suit, powder blue shirt, matching shoes, and smooth sailing in the Lincoln headed for Indiana and the final touches.

Have fun with that Veg! Nice Lincoln you have there. Looks to be in very nice condtion. They will see you coming from miles away! LOL!!

Only white boys drive Lincolns

But what cars they are! Nice landyacht!

Climate control: Every car should have one. Set the thermostat and smile. My dad's Toyota Prius has it. Set to 72 and set the vents to blow upward. The fans, recirc door, and the air vents switch are all automatic. I wish my Bug had that.

I thought that automatic climate control was dumber'n chit.

Then I tried it. Oooooh. Daddy likes.

David: I'll grow old, just not up.

Greg: I'm the bluehair, not you!

Smoofy: You're on. Dinner's at 4, right?

Paris: I won't be visiting Silverdaddies, that's for sure!

"Dramatic change in appearance." Well, you're right about that one, though it hasn't happened yet. And actually, it has nothing to do with my MLC, as it was planned by Lady Bethann, not me. (Apparently, she thinks I'm a mess. Not that I'm arguing...)

The Extreme Makeover: Veg Edition will happen in 2 weeks, Good Lord willing and the creek don't get up. So mark your calendars and ink me in for dates!

Oh, this is going to be crazy!

veg

Well Veg, congrats on your new set of wheels! And Veg if there are any other changes do we get to see a picture of the new Veg as well?

MPG!!!!!!!!!!

OH MY GOD!!! I have GOT to say i have never seen a car like that , that only gets 19MPG!!! I would expect a range rover to get that sort of mileage.

I spend $50 a month in my car and drive every day!!!
LoL
but I Do like the way it looks, plenty of room on the back seat???

Before i got my Saturn in 2001..i drove the sister to this car a 1987 Mercury Grand Marquis...beautiful riding cars and spacious.

Very nice wheels there Veg, love those big old rear wheel drive cars.

robert said it. weve had *before and afters* of Hotpoint automatics and Hoover cleaners. its time for a *new kind* of B&F, and i wanna see pics!!

OH YEAH!

Pictures!

Trust me!

This is going to be soo exciting!

Veg, The Librarian...

Veg, The Librarian Hunk, Hotty, Stud-muffin, get my drift.

Guess I'd better shut my mouth before he chickens out!

Do your prep work like I told you Honey.

Auto climate control in a Prius

The auto climate control in the Prius is so wonderful. I set the vents to point up and the control at 72. On a super hot day, the system will go to maximum AC. Fan on hi, recirc. As the interior cools, the fan gradually decreases speed. As the temp reaches 72, the fresh air vent opens and the fan increases and decreases to maintain temp. And on top of that, the thermstat control is on the steering wheel among many other functions.
