I would like to buy a vintage dishwasher

Dear friends,
I would like to buy a real vintage dishwasher from the 40s-50s like, for example, American Kitchens Roto-tray (or the twin dw Crosley), Hotpoint, Thor Automagic, GE, Youngstown, Frigidaire or others. Preferably still working or at least in good conditions (it can be repaired). I want to import it to Italy for my own use. It is almost impossible to find one of them here. Anyone can help?

Hi,
I think it will not be a major problem, I'm not an electrician but I guess I can find suitable transformers on the market. I remember in the sixties we passed from 110 to 220 Volts in Italy (home supply) and those appliances which had been purchased before the voltage changed could be used without problems just adding a transformer between the appliance and the mains.

I asked because when I first saw Miele Washers in France, I decided I wanted to buy one and bring it home to use in the US. I balked when I realized that not only was it 220V instead of our 110, but it ran on 50 cycle current instead of our 60. That would have been fun getting through customs. But those were much more innocent days.

By the way, when I was in Italy a couple of years ago, I noticed that a lot of families had 2 stoves, one usually gas powered, and also a wood fired stove that was roughly the same shape and size of the domestic range. Are there companies you can tell me who make these beautiful wood stoves that might export them?

Don't forget Hobart/Kitchenaid. They made great dishwashers from late 40's (I think) until Whirlpool bought them out in the late 80's (I think). I have a '58 Hobart/KA KD-2P portable that is a real work of art and works well also. But I'm keeping it . Occasionally I see the built-in KA's from that era for sale on eBay or Craigslist.

Re: the voltage/frequency issue. Some timers may be synchronous (that is, they are mated to the 60Hz frequency) so they might run a bit slower on a transformed 50Hz power input, but longer wash times are probably better anyway. I don't see a problem stepping down 220 volts to 110. It's the other way round that can be a bit problematic.
