Parts diagrams confirm a heating element.
I just looked at the door sticker on my Maytag MAH6500 and it has the same 10A rating.
I thought I read once that it's a 1000 watt heating element. For what it's worth, in operation the heater will only operate during tumbling. Even if the washer decides to add more water, it will disengage the heater, add the water, then turn the heater back on. So it may be able to have the 10A rating that way.

Know my older Miele cycles off the heater if machine pauses to add water because there is a very audible *thunk* sound when the thing shuts off.
