Hi everyone........Pictured below is a Maytag washer that i have a chance of getting.....Looks like it is in pretty decent shape and since i don't have a Maytag in my collection thought might as well start somewhere....Could one of the Maytag experts give me an idea to the age of this machine, pictured below......The lady that has it "thinks" it is approx. 30 years old maybe a little older.....It was her grandmothers....She didn't know much about it.....either way i will probably get it but was just wondering if one of you all could get me an idea of the year it was made....
Thanks for the help guys......
Mark

My childhood washer

Definitely an A206. The only difference between this washer and the one I grew up with, is mine did not have that faux pilot light fixture over the dial. These models were sold between 1966 and 1972 or 3. Ours was a '72 model which lasted until 1999 without once having to be repaired. A timer was once replaced, but that was it. I notice the emblem is completely worn off on yours. The emblem on my washer was completely worn off for about the last 10 years of its life. For a second, when I saw your machine, I thought I was looking at my actual childhood washer. Except for the pilot fixture this is a carbon copy. Congrats on acquiring this treasure. It will last you a good long time.

I am not sure about what the finish on the dial was, but it was not the clear dial that you would find on later 70s models, nor does it have the chrome trim found on TOL machines of the years this washer was produced.

Good Luck,
James

Me thinks it is an A206. Can't tell 100 percent if the center dial is plastic chrome - or if it is a clear dial. Also appears to be a perm press machine - 1969 through early 70's. If you do pick it up - let us know what the last two letters of the serial number are.

Not just a 10 cent pilot light...

One of the many things I liked about this generation of tag BOL's is that they had, for no apparent practical reason at all, a completely different color combination going on inside the tub. Instead of a white porcelain tub, it was blue (was this less costly to produce?), and the agitator was black with a turquoise lint filter/dispenser top. For some delightful reason, it took appliance manufacturers decades to figure out that it cost them more money to make their BOL's look different from their TOL's. Go to Home Depot; now everything looks the same.
