Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

If budgeting is your top priority, then you should also keep in mind that these older washers use a lot of water and don't spin as fast, so you will have a more expensive water bill and longer drying times, which will increase your electric bill (or gas if you use a gas dryer).

Parts for these things can also be very expensive by sheer lack of availability. We all know that these machines were built to last, but all the old machines like this have already lasted far beyond their intended life expectancy. So unless you do a full rebuild, don't expect these things to last 20+ years without issues, because well, they already have.

Now don't get me wrong, I love these old washers and much prefer them over the new junk they sell today, but if cost is a huge importance to you, then there are a lot of things you need to consider.

Sure, the older washers especially the older belt drive washers don’t have the fastest spin speeds but from my experience it spins out a good amount of water and puts less stress on the fibers of clothes. They definitely use more water but certainly take a lot less time and come to think of it time is a quite limited resource these days. Modern day machines take quite awhile to do a load of laundry and aren’t as reliable as these older machines are and don’t clean as nearly as well as the older machines do.
