A big thank you to Jetcone Jon for donating today's rather important Daily Doctrine! While I realize it doesn't have as many pretty pictures as Monday's Norge Doctrine or Tuesday's GE Dishwasher Doctrine, I've never seen a timer repair manual before and this one is a valuable tool to have in your arsenal of repair guides.
Some of you might remember my Timer-Ectamy thread from a few years back where I performed a complicated but successful repair on the Mallory timer that's in my '57 Speed Queen washer. Years ago I used to send out my timers to services like Midwest Timer Service, but over time their work became more and more shoddy in my opinion and after a while I was throwing money away because rarely did a timer with issues come back fixed properly. Now I work on all my own timers. I also make it a habit of saving old timers from machines that I'm stripping for parts, because most of the parts in old timers are still good.
The most important lesson in this timer repair manual is where it shows how to check and adjust the contact pressure. I've had many timers in my day with dead spots or it works intermittently, this section shows what I do to fix this issue.
