hello to all aw members if for some reason you needed a daily driver today eather because your acutal washer did its time or needed a backup what would you buy those from the uk feel free to reply as well this thread is open for every one

huebsch speed queen (us speed queen canada huebsch)

Whirlpool maytag or any other brands

for me after reading such good coments on huebsch speed queen i would say its my choice lol

Number of Choices:

~ SpeedQueen Top-Loader. Preferably one WITH mechanical controls and full control, none of the newer electronic BS they are starting to put out (which still work)

~ SpeedQueen Front-Loader. Nice because you can actually wash with water, cycles are quick. Not preferable as there is no booster heater installed and costs a phenomenal amount of money

~ Miele W5741 - our current model. Absolutely LOVE IT. You can add more water via the machine's computer (Water Plus), which can add more water, add a rinse or both, Pre-Wash, Shorten cycles and there are plenty of "No Frills" cycles to choose from. Unless you are using the conservative "Cottons" Programme, the machine uses plenty of water :-)

Plus there is a heater. Boil-Wash or Cold wash, if you wish. Cold wash is actually heated to about 77ºF to ensure passable results in colder climates

~ Fisher and Paykel "QuickSmart" Top-Loader. The simplistic, perhaps undersized direct-drive top loader that offers almost no-frills electronic washing options. You can choose washing time (No "Soil Level" options), Rinsing, Temperature and the like and still get decent results. Plus, the truly Direct-Drive motors have far less to go wrong (Yes I know, computers).

What wouldn't I purchase?

Almost anything that Electrolux produces (In Australia it includes): Simpson, Westinghouse, Kelvinator, Chef, Electrolux and so on. I don't think the Electrolux machines are as bad, but any of their "lessees" are terrible in terms of options, reliability and design. Especially those Simpson Top-Loaders. Bleurgh!

And perhaps anything Haier - then again F&P are made/owned by them now, so perhaps we'll be seeing more "Eff-en-Pee" thrown about here.

Maytag Maxima XL MHW8000AW

Reasons: Has internal water heater; relatively quick Normal cycle (50 minutes); have never owned a Maytag, so it would be a new brand for me; can purchase it from from my preferred local independent Frigidaire/Maytag dealer; highly-rated by Consumer Reports.

Hoover Can Handle It

Fortunately some of my old Hoover machines are still around so I would go and get one of them, I am sure Mat from Cardiff said I could have my Keymatic back anytime :-) *duck*

First off, I would insist on having a vintage Belt-Drive Kenmore (or Whirlpool) right from the start. Either that or a late 80's/mid 90's Direct-Drive Kenmore (or Whirlpool).

And yes, nothing lasts forever. So when my old and trustworthy Kenmore (or Whirlpool) tells me it's time, then as much as I hate to part with it, I would have gotten as much as I can get out of this machine by that time, so there is nothing else I can do or say. It will be sad because it would be time for it to go, but yet, my old and faithful workhorse will have to sit curbside.

And having said that, what it's replacement would be when that does happen??

It would be a Speed Queen AFN51F Front-Load Washer (like THIS baby pictured above or below)!!!!
