The 1 minute washer was designed by two students from Korea for a 2005 design contest held by designboom and Electrolux.

The goal of the contest was to get proposals for appliances in a 2020 home

In the future, more people will live by themselves and live on a busy life. I suggest a washing machine that finishes laundry in a minute. The basic design motive comes from the human ‘intestine’ (stomach, small intestine, and large intestine) that manages digestion of food. Corporate identity also is an important factor, so that I took ‘E’ from Electrolux as the design motive. When laundry is put in, it goes through a certain cycle like a relay-race and the washing completes. It is a no-soap washing machine that operates without harmful chemicals which pollutes the environment. Rather, it runs with water changed by electronic decomposition, breaks down protein, washes clothes with great water pressure, eliminates water with vacuum cleaner, and lastly disinfect with ultraviolet sterilizer. All of these processes completes within a minute. Lights appear as the clothes move around, and the ultraviolet wave leaks so that it adds on to the interior beauty of the house.

I'm sorry, but comparing a washing machine to intestines just kind of sickens me.

I would rather like to compare a washing machine to a large outdoor pool...

UV light in the final stage?Just what UV light are they using-If its UVA,B-you don't want that leaking unsheilded-those UV rays can damage eyes and skin!At least Electrolux should put a borosilicate glass window or panel over the UV light area-the glass would allow the blue purple visible light out-but block the harmful UV rays.But--to sum up-give me my ol BD WP-KN over this anyday!and--just how are going to do large items like sheets, tablecloths and such with the Intestine??And another factor UV light can also damage cloth fibers if they are frequently exposed to concentrated UV light as in this machine.

I wonder...

If out on a "washer running irregularly " service call on this machine, do I just pull a bottle of Pepto Bismol out of my tool bag and run it thru?
