Wow, My Job at McDonalds is paying off already! A Dyson DC05 silver & yellow is out the back of our local store with my name on it! Getting it on special for $529 with "bonus" turbo head. Gotta love layby.

Is this machine like the DC11 canister-they didn't sell to well in the US-were discontinued here-also US folks like the uprights better.-but that may be changing-more US homes being built or remodeled have the mixed floors-some carpet and some hard floors.Should of bought one of the DC11's before they were canned.None of the stores here carry them. The machine had an air turbine "powernozzle"The hose was non-electric.that could have been a downfall of the machine as well.Americans like electric powernozzles on their canisters.

the same as lay-away apparently.

My aunt has a dyson dc11 telescope silver+yellow edition and (because she is soooo dumb) the first time she used it she thought that is was sucking up dirt from below the house LOL

i don't have a credit card and my mom has maxed hers out and is struggling to repay it. She needed one when we bought our vax and our car repairs

I put my credit card in the freezer so I won't use it anymore-have to "thaw" it out and gives me time to think--do I REALLY need this item? Can I pay for it some other way-the interest rates on credit cards will kill your budget. They are OK if you can repay the balance before the interest is jacked up by the credit card company. And that credit card container is buried in the back of my freezer. Some of my cards I have shredded them and returned them-closed their accounts.

My mom and I went to AAA vaccum to buy a new vaccum the owner said that the dyson is crap, he says that he has already had several returns. There is a slight amount of dust in the air when you are vaccuming, the belt breaks easily and is very expensive to replace and it gets clogged very easily

I havent found that to be the case

Hi,

My mum has had a DC03 upright for 6 years now, and never any issue with dust clogging or belts. The only issue which has occured, is the need to occaisionally remove the brush bar and remove any dust from inside it. But other than that, and washing the filter every 6 months or so, there has never been a problem.

We've got a DC08 pull around, Its performance is great, I even had it at work cleaning up plaster and masonary dust. Nothing ever got through the filter. However I find the hose mount is a little awkward to tug around.

Did the appliance place you visted actually sell the machines? They may be plastic, but they take a beating.

In the Dyson owners manuals they don't recommend using the machine to pick up plaster and drywall dust, ash,or face powders,or flour. they say it could clog the filter quickly.for protection of the belt-the Dyson (uprights) DC07 series machines has a "ratchet" clutch mecanism that slips to protect the belt and the ratchet noise warns the user. You have to send those to Dyson or one of their servicecenters to replace the belt. The DC15 has a "Gear drive"-no belt-and the brushroll comes out of the floor nozzle in sections for cleaning or replacement.there is an electronic circuit breaker in the machine that cuts off the brush motor immediately if something gets caugt in the brushroll.

I have had the DC07 Animal since they were made available in the US. (over 2 years) I use it weekly and love it. The only porblem I had was I got a split in the hose and had to replace that. I have never clogged it up, it never lost suction and does a better job than our electrolux epic. I would have loved to purchase the canister version but they were not available at the time. Yes they are plastic but very durable. I would highly recomend one. I use to post to vacweb.com before it went to $$$ site and there were people in the UK that complained the plastic broke all the time. I can't believe that. I had a cheap plastic douglas shop vac that I bought for $40 in 1984 and I still had it up to last year and only replaced it because I needed a better shop vac to clean up huricane water in the basment of my in-laws house and did not want 2 sitting in my garage, i gave it away. The plastic parts never broke from that machine and it went through years of hard work during remodels of my entire house. If you take care of stuff it will last, if you abuse it it will break. Its as simple as that.

Re. lay away:

Nope, it has nothing to do with money. It's the command you issue in the chicken coop to get the hens to start producing eggs. "One, two, three: Lay away!"

I'm told it was derived from the old US Army Air Corps phrase used by the bombardier at the start of a bombing run, "Bombs away!"
