ive finally decided to get this machine i was torn between this and a aqualtis but i dont have enough for the aqualtis so im getting this:
The HOTPOINT WMF740G.

why on EARTH are you getting a Hotpoint? They're just mutton dressed as lamb. It's a dolled-up Indesit. Like when the slags on on a night out and think they look so great cos they've put a bit of slap up. But really, underneath it all, they're still just Indesit's.

that may be the case but i know it will perform better than our current haier which is just over a year old and the motor is starting to go because its not able to handle tha amount of washing we do.

and anyway ive always like Ariston/Hotpoint and indesit machines, id prefare if the machine im getting was badged Ariston but they dont sell any ariston badged machines over here anymore.

That has to be the best analogy for Hotpoint I have ever heard!
To be honest Luke you'd be much, much, MUCH better off going for a similarly priced Zanussi. Personally I'd put a lot more faith into a Beko than a Hotpoint/Indesit. They may have improved the suspensions slightly on these models, but that dosen't remove from the fact that IMO they are the worst on the market, with the exception of Haier.
Personally I find Hotpoint's current styling rather vulgar, but each to their own.

ive had a beko, it was horrible it broke down 3 times within 6 months, i ont like zannussi much either,and i actually love the new styling of the hotpoints, fair enough indesit have built up a bad reputation in the last few years, but not every single machine that comes from their factory is a lemon.

Well my thinking is
If a Beko broke down 3 times in 6 months that dosen't bode well for Indesit/Hotpoints.
You may well get a decent one, you may get a horrendous one, thats the chance you take when you buy these lower end machines.
Don't really see whats not to like about Zanussi, they outwash, and most importantly outlast Indesit-Hotpoints by a long way (generally), yet they aren't really any more expensive. Value for money is the main thing really.
Personally I find choosing any appliance because of it's looks or pointless features rather than it's performance and longevity/durability to be completely absurd. Unfourtunately that does seem to be how most people choose appliances because they don't bother to look into performance or longevity. Don't judge a book by it's cover, is the approach that should be taken.
To me Hotpoint/Indesit, and Hoover/Candy, and a lot of brands like LG and Samsung are all about 2 things: Looking as "trendy" as possible and having as many lights, buttons, bell and whistles as possible, whilst sacrificing performance and reliability, to provide your average consumer who knows nothing of appliances what they *think* they want at a price that seems fair.
I like to think of these machines in a "the lights are on but no ones home" sort of way. They look like they mean buisiness, but there's nothing substantial to them under that glitzy (tacky) facade.

There are machines on the market which perform worse, my Mum's Whirlpool for instance leaves a bit to be desired on the wash front, and you say your current Haier isn't too great from that perspective.
It's just that their not the best either, from my experience the only thing that can wash better than a Zanussi is a Miele. All these A-G ratings may have improved the performance of machines on the whole compared to before their introduction, but it's not as if all machines which are A rated wash well.
I wonder if you could explain a bit more what you mean by "the motor is starting to go" on the Haier? It could be a cheap and easy fix, if the motor is sparking, making a "crackling" noise and/or the drum struggles to tumble, dosen't tumble, 9 times out of 10 thats just the carbon brushes, a very cheap, very easy and very common repair on any machine with a brush motor. It may even be that there's nothing wrong, I've thought many times that one of my machines was about to need repair because of strange noises, but as suddenly as they have started to happen, they stop and all is well from then on.
Don't give up and buy a new machine when there may be no need. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" Is my motto.

ariston4life....if you really want the Hotpoint then go for it. We all see machines that we love the look of and think "I have to have it"! I love the look of some of the worst washers that have ever been on the market but they appeal to me and make me happy. I think it's a childhood thing....relatives of mine all had BOL Indesit machines with low spin speeds and to this day there is no more pleasing sound to me than a machine spinning at 400rpm!! Maybe your liking of the Hotpoint styling is it the closest modern match to Aristons gone by? I love the styling of the Indesit moon as it reminds me of the L5 for some reason.
I think most of us are savy enough to fiddle about with machines to get the best out of them by interupting the cycle and repeating stages to get the best out of them no matter what their "rating" is. That's half the fun of doing laundry.
We all love washing machines but some machines don't appeal to us and some "call" to us. If you love it, buy it....ok so you may not have it long, you may go off it but lets face it it's and excuse to get a new one!! I will say though if this machine has to be a keeper buy a machine that has been on the market for a few months at least, check reviews as they show any teething problems. Failing that, scour "Gumtree", "Ebay" or put a "Wanted" ad on FreeCycle, you never know, the Ariston of your dreams may appear!

thanks for that paulc your right... any machine that has any conection with ariston past present or future i will like them... i will always like ariston... i don't even call it the indesit company because ariston was always merlonis main brand before hte indesit take over that why i call all their machines aristons... as for the haier the only reason i got it was because it has the ariston drum other than that i wouldnt have botherd getting it, it takes to long to wash and the results arnt great for the amount it takes to wash them it takes 2:24 to do a 40* cotton wash and its a rediculus amount of time.

I am really really lucky that I could afford a machine that is super flexible. I can lower wash time and increase temp so can get lightly soiled loads done in just over an hour....a boon in the summer when you want to get stuff hung out asap!!
BTW how much is that Hotpoint? Have you been looking at other machines to?

i was thinking of the aqualtis but its 605 euro and its to dear, so this one is euro450, but i may find it cheaper in another store as ive only priced it in one.but i wasnt looking at any others ive known for a while that i wanted to get an "ariston".but my nannys intergrated electrolux is on its way out so i was thinking of getting her this CDA machine, does anyone know if there any good?

You can get really good deals on the internet for the "old" Aqualtis with the 7.5kg capacity.
As for CDA I know nothing about them, maybe Chestermike would.

The only Hotpoint id consider is the Aqualtis, as it seems to have done the large capacity idea pretty well. All other Hotpoints seem like a waste of money to me - theyre not THAT cheap and they don't seem to last well compared to similarly priced or cheaper competition.
The amount of Hotpoints & Indesits for sale as spares/repairs is shocking compared to the competition, and 9 times out of 10 it appears to be bearing or electronic failure, which to me is even more worrying because Hotpoint/Indesit must know these are weak points, but don't do anything about it.
I think they only sell based on looks and many people have regretted using this as a reason for their choice.
If you can't afford an Aqualtis, wait until you can or buy a rare old Ariston/Indesit/Hotpoint - theyll outlast a new Hotpoint, thats for sure.

I can only say that the choice for a certain washer is not a matter of sense, that's why we all are members of this club. We all have our own preferences based on who knows what. If you really think a certain washer is the one you want you just have to ignore what other people say and get it. Even if it makes no sense to a lot of people. I wish you lots of happy washing with the Hotpoint.
