I just went to Stop & Shop because I was out of Tide Free for my best friends's laundry. I just looked at the receipt after I got home, $8.50 for 100 Oz. When the hell did Tide get so expensive. I remember when 200 Oz cost $9.99. I'll still pay it because I am a fool for Tide, but come on, almost $10 bucks for 100 Oz??? Oh well. Life goes on

Stop Your Whining *LOL*

The 142oz Tide costs anywhere from $16.99 to $25.00 or more in our area. Lower prices can be had at K-Mart or Sam's Club, Coscto etc, but one has to buy those huge boxes.

Spied a damaged 142oz box of Tide w Bleach when at the shops yesterday, asked the manager if one could have it at a discount, and she did so with a final price of $13.00 before taxes.

Tide has always been rather dear cost wise, and has anyone noticed the powdered versions go on sale rarely, while the liquids seem to at least once a quarter.

I like Tide also and find it is the best detergent on the market that i have ever used. Washing a towel load though with that stuff is a real PITA! LOL. Even when set for a 2nd rinse there are still suds in the load. Must be that famous Kenmore spinning LOL. Excellent detergent nonetheless.

The price of Tide in our area has a huge variation. If you want it, you can always buy it cheap at the big Drug stores like CVS or at Walgreens. A 100 oz box of Tide with Bleach retails for 12.99 at Stop and Shop but you can get it on sale (and the sales happen every couple of weeks) at the drug stores for 5.99. You can also buy huge amounts of it at the wholesale clubs for much less than the supermarkets.

Do you have....

...a Trader Joe's in your area?

I buy the 100 load size of their own brand, "Next to Godliness" powder for $8.99, and it contains oxygen bleach.

It cleans well, is fragrance free, and is cheap to use. It's also great for sensitive skin. It makes the water nice and slick with a level scoop, so you know it's working but it's not very sudsy. I've never tried it in a front loader, but it has instructions and says it's suitable for HE Machines (use at your own risk). However, it rinses out very easily in my top loader.

Another plus for the environmentally conscious; it's not tested on animals, and uses plant based surfactants (and still works fine).

sam's

Was at our local Sam's day before...145 washes of Tide orginal was 24.99. I like Surf with Gain liquid fabric softner. My son's preference is Mtn. Freast Gain...but my god!!! talk about and arm and leg!!/mark

Trader Joe's

I've used it, too, although it's been a while. I think it's the same formula as Country Save powder. They come in the same type of box, same little scoop, same information on the package. The Trader Joe's version is less expensive, though. I used it in a front loader, and sudsing didn't seem to be a problem at all.

If one is willing to pay the shipping, those online janitoral/commercial sites sell various versions of Tide either by the case or huge sizes for a good price. Again shipping might be rather dear though.

Back when P&G had a plant on Staten Island (Port Ivory), father would bring home HUGE boxes of detergent (remember one of them being Cold Power). Darn things were almost half the size of our Whirlpool washing machine.

Tide is EXPENSIVE!

I wash my whites, lights, and linnens with Tide powder, and I wash my colors and darks with Cheer powder. I just prefer powder to liquid because it is easy to clean up, and I am not paying for water and solvents. At my local Target, the 120 load box of Tide is something like $17.99. The 96 load vat of Tide with a dispenser is about $19.50. 120 loads for $18, or 96 loads for nearly $20. Also, our local Kroger has the liquid 96 load for about $5.00 more than Target. Sadly, unless you go to Target or some similar place, powder, especially in large size boxes, is getting very difficult to find.

Keep clean,
Dave

Does anybody remember the size designations?

Single Use = from the vending machine in the laundromat
Trial size = what came in your new Maytag
Giant = small
King = medium
Jumbo = large
Home Laundry = gi-mungous with a handle and sometimes a scoop.

Does anyone remember the issue of MAD magazine that spoofed this?
