Today I was thinking about cancelling my washer hunting trip tomorrow as gas prices hit $3.00 a gallon here in the Twin Cities this afternoon, but I decided to go anyway. When I first planned this trip gas prices were under $2.00 a gallon. I'm certainly not complaining, considering what those poor people in New Orleans are going through. I'm lucky just to be able to go on a trip.

I'll keep in touch on the road whether I find anything cool or not. Tomorrow I'm going up to Fargo to hit all the appliance places I can find there. Ya just never know.

Go, and may you find something nice!

Come on Robert, "fill her up" give up the $$$ for Dick and George! (:

I'm glad I won't have to fill up for another week, but I better have one of the paramedics go with me (well, I'd love to have a few of them go with me anywhere anyway) woof!!

I went through a similar thought process when I agreed to go to Portland and get that counter-mount pink fridge on Saturday, but then I realized that it will be (at the very most) two tanks of gas, which is (at the most) an extra 24 dollars. So why not?

I should say that I don't like to take "frivolous" car trips, what with the war and all (I have three cousins over in Iraq - two of which are older and fatter than I am, and have no business being there), so I am going to give an acquaintance a ride down to Portland as well.

If it weren't for the fridge - which actually is the only reason I'm going - I'd take the train, but Amtrak frowns on trying to bring a fridge, no matter how fabulous, with you. ;-)

I have been going to a lot of vintage car show this summer, and attendance has seems to be lighter than usual. The Auburn Cord Duesenberg Festival is this weekend in Auburn Indiana. I am going with a couple of friends. The weather report looks good,so we shall see. I usually make a couple trips up there, however we may just do one day this year.

BTW.... Gasoline is $3.45 per gallon here for premium. $3.19 for regular. All my cars run on premium, but I don't mind.... Whatever I pay for premium grade this week, will be the same price as next weeks regular grade. (:

Hey Robert.......

Go get 'em pal! May the appliance gods shine down upon you and shower you with vintage washing machine abunance. Take care and be safe.

Yesterday I passed an elderly man who appeared to me to be in his nineties----putting along on a Suzuki motor-scooter. He is ahead of his time ----but not by much! Here is your golden opportunity-----"Vespa" dealerships are springing up in all the major cities------if you have the money to invest-----this will be a "gold mine" in the future! (And don't forget bicycle shops!)

It appears that the "Golden Age" of the automobile in this country is over. We now have to share the world's supply of fuel with China----a huge and growing market. (China has become GM's largest mini-van market-----where GM manufacutres models that get close to 50 MPG! Hello!) I think America will eventually become like most of the other nations in the world and we will start to work and shop in a very close radius to home, because of the fuel costs.

For the first time in my life I stop and concider what errands I can combine in one run to conserve fuel----no more just jumping in and running 10 miles this way and 30 miles that way----an easy thing to do in metro Atlanta. My big, comfortable, Dodge pick-up truck (extended cab and bed) is fast becomming a dinosaur! It has Chrysler's smallest V-8, a 318cu engine. It gets great mileage---18-20 mpg, or at least I thought so before fuel went over $2.00 a gallon.

Oh well, pretty soon I'll be seen driving down Peachtree Road on my Vespa with a washing machine tied on the back--------what a sight THAT will be-----talk about "run-flat" tires!

I used to drive a Citroen GS1220. It was sort of hatchback shaped but actally wasn't a hatch - the boot (trunk) was a neat rectangle which could JUST hold a Hoover front loader, lying down on its back. That was without folding the seat down. The opening was barely big enough to squeeze the machine in.

My current car is a 93 Mitsubishi Magna (Diamante) wagon, it takes two front loaders easily and three at a severe squeeze, fortunately it is converted to LPG which is 40 to 45 cents per litre.

I love that photo Louis, it's a bit too hilly around here for that to work for me.

Chris.

The picture is a bit small but you get the idea!

LOL! I should of done that when I found the washer in back of the value village

Gilligan's island no longer looks far-fetched, this was how they powered their washer.

$3.25 per gallon here, for regular gasoline
$.05 EXTRA for credit + 18% annual rate is you have a balance due!!!!!!!

Here comes rapid inflation ----again-----------

Best of luck with your appliance hunt, Robert! When I lived in Fargo there was an appliance store on....I believe it's Main Avenue (a curvy, Nicollet Mall-style street) downtown. They had new/used appliances. I bought a used DW and microwave there.

I was going to get a bicycle for excercise.
(Yup a Target special!)

Now I will get one with a basket for groceries, as well as helmet and a chain to lock it up and use it for PRACTICAL purposes, ASAP.

YAY to the death of the SUVs!
