I read in the magazine section of the Sunday paper last night that Maytag and Jenn-Air dishwashers have a serious fire hazard.

The Liquid rinse-aid can leak from the dispenser and come into contact with the dishwasher's internal wiring, which can short-circuit and ignite, posing a fire hazard.

These are dishwashers were made from July 1997 throught June 2001.

You go onto the link listed below with the model number and serial number of your machine for more information.

If your DW is listed as a fire hazard they are advising to no longer use it and disconnect the power until the upgrade is done or replace the machine.

They are offering $75.00 toward the purchase of a new Whirlpool, Maytag or Jenn-Air DW or you can order an upgrade kit which includes a new door and seperate new rinse aid dispenser. You will have to arrange for a Maytag technician to come and install it free of charge. They do not want the consumer doing it themselves.

Ours is listed under the recall and we use the rinse aid dispenser. I think we may replace the machine since it is 8 years old and get the $75.00.

I have an avid fear of house fires! Nor do I have the time to take off from work and wait for a repair person.

My sister

Has one of the recalled dw's. The repair person came out and screwed up her dw so bad that it is no inoperable. The digital display is faint and the dw does not start. She is waiting for someone else to come out to repair it. Prior to this, the dw was working flawlessly.
Guess the repairman from Maytag did not know what he was doing.

Only one problem in 8 years

We have only had 1 problem with our Maytag. 1) The water valve quit working shorly after it hit the 1 year mark. I replaced the water valve myself. Flawless since!

I'm also afraid a repair person will screw ours up! GRRRRR!

Maypool-whirltag

I have one of these recalled treats. We called and got the parts in a few days. called to set up install and was told we could not use the Maytag dealer we bought the dishwasher from. They are not authorized to repair maytags even though they sold almost all real tags for last 30 years. The company that was to repair are very bad reputation. So I am buying a Ge or anything but whirlpool.

Maytag Dishwashers

My folks have a Jetclean II, butits serial number is not one that is affected. It is without a doubt the best dishwasher I have ever used (I have not had the pleasure of using a Kitchen Aid of any vintage). I saw some new Maytags that looked similar, but they seemed a bit flimzy in comparison. If given a choice, I would definately fix this dishwasher. I now live with a Whirlpool Gold series dishwasher and I have words for it, but if I were to use them I would offend many horse-stable cleaners, fertilizer resellers, and sewage treatment plant workers. It's like an old Hobart Kitchen Aid, everything since has been downhill.

Avoid WP dishwashers,
Dave

Wear and Tear / Don't blame the Maytag Repairman.

My understanding is that it's possible that while repairing these units for recall-related troubles that the machine may develop other troubles. Although it may look like the repairman did wrong, actually these additional failures are due to normal wear-and-tear! Don't blame the Maytag repairman! The dishwasher was probably deteriorating due to years of use and therefore needing more repair than y'all realized.
Fortunately, rumor has it that Whirlpool-Maytag may pick up reasonable extra repairs leaving your dishwasher in better condition than it was.

Replaced my Maytag-Cutting my losses

I am replacing our Maytag MDB6000 dishwasher that per the serial is on recall for the fire hazard. We have used the heck out of it during the 9+ years we have had it. I removed the old Maytag last night. Upon taking off the bottom front panels to disconnect the water, drain line and power I did notice the wiring directly beneath the rinse aid dispenser were coated in rinse aid residue.

I purchased a Whirlpool model #DU1055XTSQ in black from Hhgregg here in Atlanta. I'll let ya'll know how well we like it once I install it and have it operational. If I'm not satisfied they have a 10-day satisfaction gurantee or I'll raise enough h*ll until I'm satisfied.

I'll get a $75.00 rebate from Whirlpool. WOO HOO! Wish it was $150.00! Could blow that in a nice restruant with my wife!

took apart the old diswasher

I took off the front of our old MDB6000 Maytag DW after we had replaced it last month because of the fire hazard.
The wires coming from the Rinse Aid dispenser were brown and discolored from the leakage of RA dispenser. The area where the wires goes down into the bottom of the dishwasher was completely black from the Rinse Aid leaking.

It's really scared the crap out of me and my wife on how this thing had leaked without our knowing of it. We are the type who use to go to bed with the DW running. Not any longer!
