In Search of 30" White Stove to Match 1962 GE Refrigerator

I acquired a beautiful 1962 GE Spacemaker refrigerator about a year ago and am now looking for a stove to match the refrigerator. Unfortunately, my kitchen is very small and cannot accommodate the gorgeous double oven stoves I have found on Craigslist and the Facebook Marketplace, which seem to be more common. I am having a heck of a time trying to find a vintage stove in the 30" size. I am in Lakewood, Colorado near Denver and would prefer to stay local, but would consider having a stove shipped. I would appreciate any suggestions on a shipping company, as well.

GE made some awesome 30" ranges...

especially the gorgeous '57 to '61-ish models, they look like this '58 GE, with the raised "floating" backsplash and cool glass panel between the "legs", except they are in the smaller 30" size. They're not all that rare, one is likely to pop up, especially in the common white color, in the huge Denver Metro area (our daughter lives there) at some point!

I grew up with that same refrigerator (except ours had a RH hinge).

 

It lasted more than 16 years (we sold the house while it was still running).

It had no drip-through shelves that adjusted up and down and swung out for getting at stuff at the back

It had a meat pan with adjustable temperature.

It had adjustable door shelves and one of those vintage butter keepers with 3 temperature selection

It had a pull-out freezer compartment with two large baskets that came out together (you'd roll the top one back to get at the very bottom basket). There was a third top shelf that pulled out independently with the best designed manual ice tray system that I've ever seen, and since I was the one in the house who had the responsibility of keeping the ice going, I can say I'm an authority on ice cubes. It also had a mini-shelf next to if for all those frozen OJ cans we used to buy.

It likely cost more, in1961 dollars, than most Sub-Zeros do today.

 

45 years later, because of somebody on this site, I discovered that it was factory pre-set with a built-in automatic ice making system. I'm sure my Father chose not to install the required cold water supply as he was neurotic about potential leaks.

 

Without equivocation or exaggeration, I have never seen a better refrigerator in my life.

Bajaespuma,  I have not been able to find hardly anything on my fridge. That is the first ad that I have seen that is specific to the TC-469W. Thanks so much for posting the ad! I am so glad that I found such a good quality refrigerator. I found it on the Facebook Marketplace last year for $20. I think I paid more to have it transported to my house. lol. I spent a month cleaning it and it was gorgeous! Unfortunately, when it became very hot last summer the compressor started failing. I then spent another 9 months looking for someone who would take on the job while it sat in the garage. Finally, a nice gentleman responded to my Craigslist ad and has been working on it. Hopefully, it will be home again soon.

Spacepig, Thank you very much for sending the CL link to the stove! Sorry to get back to you so late, but I have been busy with a vintage Maytag washer and dryer I picked up. I love the stove, but after considering what it costs to ship, I think I am going to keep looking locally.

Frigidaire Deluxe Stove

I found a Frigidaire Deluxe Stove I am going to look at. I really like the fancier Frigidaire stoves I have seen a little better and the 60s GE stoves you all have shared. I may just end up holding out for one of those, but I still think I should look at this one to make sure as these 30" stoves are awfully hard to come by.  It looks like it has been well maintained.

30" ranges were becoming much more common than 40"ers, and even in 1960 quite common, one should pop up, hang in there!

That same Frigidaire in vomicado, I inherited it from our neighbor on the street where I grew up, it is as good of a range as you could ever use.1973

We use this FD 30" every day...

and as Hans says they are great cookers and bakers. This one ca. 1975 and has Electri-Clean. Not too hard to find, but parts not quite as common as GE, however the important ones are obtainable.

Nice Frigidaire, Firedome

When I worked at a hardware store that was a Frigidaire dealer in the Spring-Summer of '77, we had one just like that on display. It was the fanciest model range on the floor, as anything higher up was special order.

I think I found a stove!

Found this beautiful Frigidaire in Utah. The bottom panel looks a little beat up, but I am hoping I can either find another to replace it. I think it will look nice with the fridge.

I really like Firdeome's range.

Digital clock, electriclean, auto cook, work light, has all you need. Doesn't even look dated. My mom had a white stove, and a gold refrigerator for a while. Her range was fine, and the fridge they got a great deal on from the Sears clearance room.

I loved the Frigidaire, but decided on this Hotpoint model RB332D stove. I found it on Sunday, paid for it online and had it shipped via Uship. It arrived Monday evening! I'm still trying to find information on it so I can date it. I absolutely love the pattern on the control panel. I think it will be the perfect compliment to the GE fridge.

I would say it's from sometime around 1965 or so. Others on here will probably be able to tell you the exact year. The ad in the link is from '65.

It might be older.  I don't have a 'decoding ring' for Hotpoint model and serial numbers but that address on the model plate that reads "Chicago 44" kinda says 1963 or before to me because there is no zip code.  Still, it may have taken a couple of years for manufacturers to get name and model plates updated....

 

Whatever its age, you found a very nice looking range Kelly!  Parts, should you need them, should not be difficult to find.  Congratulations!!

Thanks turquoisedude. I just found an ad in The Oil City Derrick newspaper from August 3, 1963 for a Hotpoint range, model RB332, so I think you are right in your assessment. 

 

I just downloaded the 1963 Hotpoint catalog from this site. It lists RB330d, which is close, but the photo shows buttons on the control panel. Mine has knobs.

Nice range

You  made a great selection!  Looks like it's in very good shape, too.  None of the literature that I have illustrates this exact range, but I think in 1964 Hotpoint introduced the "custom crafted" badge and I don't see that on this one.  So my guess would be no newer than 1963.
