In search of a timer

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support AutomaticWasher.org:

it's doing the same thing described earlier in this thread...agitates as soon as i start it up...but i do suspect it's the timer, it doesn't seem to be advancing to the next cycle..it only goes so far, then i need to move it to spin, rinse, etc. will have hubby read through this next week, when he goes on vacation. again...thank you all for the help, i love my old maytag, and would rather not replace it.

The Permanent Press,Gentle and Regular buttons on an A406 have nothing to do with wash or spin speed, as this is stricktly a one speed washer.
The buttons report to the timer, not the motor, and tell it how long to agitate or pause and how long to spin or how to partial spin and refill as in perm press cooldown. A really good machine, a fabric matic, but not a two speed.
