Hello all!!!

I have a Miele Softronic W 5820 for two years now and NEVER used the fabric softener dispenser as it will get molded.. I am proud to say that my machine is like the day I bought it, sparkling and smells nice and fresh.
I always use Ariel Color and Style powder and no or in wash fabric softener.
I put everything in the drum together with the laundry at the beginning of the wash.

To the point.
I bought from Paris the Cajoline brin de folie fabric softener pods and were amazing!!!
Laundry smells amazing. However, in Greece I can not get them.....

If I will buy Cajoline liquid fabric softener and just pour 1 cup on the clothes at the beginning of the wash, will I get the same result or it will be just a waste?

Thank you in advance,
D.

You could try it, but it is likely to be a waste and there is a good chance it will cause your detergent to not be as effective.

Use the dispenser...just ensure you water down the softener if it is particularly 'thick' so that it is like water.

If you are particularly concerned about mould, you can always remove the dispenser drawer once a week, wash under warm water, dry and replace.

In wash softener

We used to have those exact ones in the UK, under the "Comfort" brand, for some reason, they were discontinued?? I had heard that introducing softener at the same time as detergent basically makes them both ineffective (they cancel each other out). So I wonder how does 2in1 work??

Never understood the point of these - they were really expensive and didn't work as well as separate conditioner.

@liamy1 - As for 2in1 products, they use a clay based ingredient 'bentonite' that supposedly softens fabrics. It doesn't really work that well, as anyone who has tried Bold would probably agree. It's also used in Fairy Non-Bio, even though that's not sold as a 2in1 but they claim it leaves clothes feeling soft.

Believe it or not, those cajoline pods worked great for me,
That is why I thought that even the liquid might worked.....

P&G

Use Bentonite, they have the patent on their softening agents in Bold/Fairy.

Unilever use some sort of fat in their 2in1 Persil, which builds up over time to soften fabrics.

Early In Wash Fabric Softeners

Such as Rain Barrel used cationic surfactants and or oils which are not compatible with the ionic or anionic surfactants used for cleaning in detergents. The two cancel each other out to the extent neither function provides full potential.

Latest incarnations such as "Tide with a Touch of Downy" seemed to have licked this problem, however one questions their actual requirements.

Most liquid detergents already leave washing softer than say using powders, especially the more harsher high alkaline versions.

Try using a tablespoon of distilled white vinegar in your fabric softener dispenser. No mold, no issues with a dirty dispenser and softer laundry than without anything at all. Perhaps not as good as real fabric softener though.

After every load of laundry I pull the dispenser drawer out and put it upside down in a sink for a while. And I leave the dispenser always a bit open in between.

Hm, I always though 2-in-1 products were basically super-scented detergent so that the scent would last through the rinses. Kinda like x-in-1 dishwasher tablets that have enough surfactants to, ideally, last through the rinses.

It worked!!!

So, I bought a botle of cajoline and poured 1 cup on the laundry, then added Ariel color and style powder and did the cycle.

Ta da!!!!
Super scented laundry and the smell lasts!!!!

I thing it is going to be my new habit...

This looks a lot like Snuggle blue sparkle. Can you find that where you live? It is sold as a single fabric softener liquid but you might get the same fragrance and smell for two weeks as the box says.

Dimitris, if you mix a small amount of detergent and fabric softener in a glass of water and let it stand for a while you`ll see the two are not in harmony.
It`s going too look clotted.

Through the wash fabric softeners are a totally different thing than fabric softeners designed for the last rinse.

Jerrod6, in Greece, Snuggle is called Cajoline, but the in wash pods are not sold here, I bought them in France.

Mrboilwash, I know that they don't do well together, however, clothes come out clean and smell great so I don't mind... (I use powder detergent).

Are there...

...Vernel Crystals over there in Greece? They were discontinued in Germany about a year ago but I think they worked well. Or maybe there's a French internet store like britsuperstore... Have you tried amazon.fr?

Wouldn't mix powdered detergent with liquid fabric softener as was written before. The special surfactants in the softener prevent the detergent from sudsing and will give you poor washing results.
