First I'd like to wish everyone a happy and safe Independence Day.

Just curious what everyone is doing to celebrate, and if you're having a gathering what are you making?

I am hosting a small barbeque for some family, about 5-6 people. The food will come later.

Mmmmm, I love spinach dip. Would you share your recipe Malcolm?

We had bacon and cheese filled burgers
Kielbasa Patties
Grilled pineapple
Crockpot baked potatoes
Greek orzo salad
Baked Beans
Vanilla Butter Nut Pound Cake with mixed berries

Home alone with my 2 dogs and lovin it. Not only is it 100+ outside, it's humid too which is something that seems to be getting progressively worse each year...so much for "it's a dry heat." I was invited to go to the Veteran's Hall in Newport Beach for a celebration but I declined. The person driving drinks like a fish (at least at my house she does) and I'm not about drive through LA traffic with her. Offering or insisting that I drive is not an option with this person. I wished her a happy 4th and told her to please drive carefully. Hope everyone enjoys their holiday.

Scott,

Unfortunately it isn't your burger recipe.
They were pre made ground chuck patties with bacon and American cheese chunks in it, I had them from last trip I made to the slaughter house

I do however plan on trying your burgers soon

Btw the bacon burgers were great with grilled pineapple rings

For the first time in decades, we're sitting around doing nothing today. I've been exhausted lately, so I slept till 2pm!! However, we're getting together with family tomorrow, so we'll make up for it.

We do something different every year, but there's always something from the grill. We have a small spread, but it's all good stuff.

Watermelon--we eat it first, like a salad
Grilled skirt steak
Flour tortillas and salsa borracha to make tacos
Shopska Salad, a recipe from the Romanian Communist Party, which I know is bizarre for July 4, but it's delicious, and anyway, we won
Blackberry Cobbler and vanilla ice cream--I already made the ice cream, and the blackberries are from our backyard, which is nice
And Sangria!!

When I was a kid in the 50's our entire family including Aunts, Uncles and grandparents used to go to a forest preserve and have a huge all day long picnic. There were lots of activities including swimming so you'd never get bored.

I don't think that anyone in our family that's left does anything like that anymore.
We are house sitting today, so we'll just hang out here and keep the house occupied looking. Did I mention that the house we are watching is a $4 million dollar house sitting on 5 fenced in acres? The dogs are having the time of their lives exploring the place and grounds.

Nearby Natick 4th of July parade this morning (our Relay For Life has a float in it)... cancelled yesterday because of incoming thunder/lightning threats. This morning's weather would have been perfect- not too hot, no blazing sun, and no rain until about 10.

Boston Pops 4th concert and fireworks- done yesterday instead of a dress rehearsal because of the weather threat.

Today's BBQ that I was going to DJ/Karaoke Jock for... postponed until tomorrow.

But, I got to relax all day 'cause I couldn't do yard work in the rain! Rich and Andy went to Newport RI to tour a couple of the mansions.

Chuck
