INDESIT 610W

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

L5

Hi all. My aunty had an L5 indesit when I was little. It lasted about 9 years, suprising as she used to overload it constantly! I loved that machine, would sit and watch it for ages, hers had a spin of 380rpm....things came out still dripping wet but she had a morphy richards spin dryer that she spun the laundry after it was washed. She repaced the L5 with a 800 spin indesit, don't know the model number but it had 3 dials and the navy blue facia.

Im lovin this thread!

My memories abit hazy, didnt the rinses on early to mid 80s indesits have just abit higher than half way up the door rinses?

i'd love a brown indesit from the 80s, i always wanted my friend bens indesit i loved seeing that everytime i went round to play!

Spin draining is awesome! Queue the philips, and schulthess machines! Where i live me and jon visited our local launderette which has 30yr old schuthess machines that spin drain. Theres nothing quite like seeing it in person! amazing springs to mind! Especially as the rinse water was 3/4 of the way up the door!!!!!

and another variation on the L6 theme - they seemed to produce a load of different machines based on this style..

Spin drain

My 1982 indesit 2093 never vibrated at all when spinning!I found the spin draining very efficient and several friends who had indesits were also very happy with them.
A friend of mine who bought her first automatic bought an 800rpm indesit after seeing how quiet mine was.
Oh dear,if she had been on Heathrows flight path,it wouldn't have been so noisey!!

a bit more info on the Indesit L5LGB

the info is taken from the October 1977 edition of WHICH Consumer magazine.

cost : £126, but down to £75 (made in Italy).

dimensions : 86.5 x 64 x 53.5cm.

water supply : cold fill only.

stacking : no; can't be used under a worksurface either.

mobility : no wheels, but can be levelled.

programmes : no HLCC markings; heater settings may be varied for similar programmes; presoak; prewash; rinse and spin.

spinning : no spin delay; no seperate spin.

max cotton load : 4kg (9lb).

cotton programme : takes 1.5 hours, uses 2.1 kWh and 75 litres of water.

synthetic programme : takes 1 hour, uses 0.5kWh and 75 litres of water.

performance:

cotton load - fair.
syntehtic load - better than average.
creasing synthetic - moderate.
spinning efficiency - poor.
spin speed - 360rpm.

convenience:

instruction book - fairly poor.
using controls - fair, but several controls to set.
detergent dispenser - on top of machine, not removable, none for fabric conditioner, lid had sharp edges.
loading clothes - satisfactory, but door catch awkward, right hinged door acceptable.
noise - acceptable.
filter/lint trap - self cleaning pumpwith easy access to clear blockages.

Radio and TV interference : satisfactory.

Safety : electrically satisfactory.

WHICH VERDICT : very cheap (to purchase) and being phased out, so you may find even lower prices. But spinning very poor and machine inconvenient to use - clearer instructions would help.

All in all a bit of a mixed report, but the machine was a nearly 10year old design and had held its own throughout the 1970's in the face of Hoover Matchboxes and Hotpoint Liberators. It must have done something right to have lasted so long.

hope the info proves useful
