Are we talking transportation bolt issues here or a simple incapacity to balance a load?

Went to Currys yesterday and saw one for the first time - why oh why would you want one of these ugly looking things.

Methinks its too much too soon style wise, a bit like the dyson contra thingy me jig - why would you want a machine that protrudes a mile into your kitchen?

You will NOT see me with an indesit moon in my house lol.
I think the moon will be ecliped when miele will produce a 8-9kg miele washer to the uk, i'll be first to put my name down if it had a 2000 spin, the miele that is.
 
Your machine is not leveled properly. Leveling is important for a washing machine both Top-Loading and Front-Loading. This ensures proper spin preformence and prevents the washer from shaking or yes, walking!!
 
Not guilty guv'nor - the moon is nothing to do with me thank god! Truly awful looking bit of kit.

Much prefer to be able to see what is going on - give me a porthole anyday.

Just stumbled across the vid on youtube whilst trawling, thought ermmm and wondered whether this was a typical Moon performance.

That the Dyson, Looks Shit! I agree, can see why they were not popular sticking out like a sore thumb. And the poor ppl that got conned into something that promised to be so good that ended up with the most unreliable machine produced to date in the UK. Possibly along with the Titan. And to be honest I cant believe Indesit companies designers, 2 machines of plastic, Aqualtis and Moon that dont do anything for me. i think from a design point of view and from the money they cost look so cheap and tacky. Miele win it all on the classic range with solid chrome doors and good solid control panels. Not keen on the Kofort models but they definitely look better than this Indeshite company stuff.
 
Crikey. That moon. I actually would like the look of it if the door was like a opaque electrolux door from the 80s and had the dispenser built into the doorseal like on the extendia.

I had to sell one of these to a customer lastweek and i cringed my way through the whole sale and i really hit hard on the warranty but she was having none of it..the poor soul.

Opaque Electroux door with dispenser built into the seal? I'm not sure if such a machine exists, can't even imagine it lol! But it'd be interesting to find out more about it though!
 
Oh sorry, I misunderstood what you meant, I thought you were talking about an Electrolux and not the Indesit Moon lol! I like the Moon but you just can't see into it, I prefer my nana's WG1030 instead.

I like the Electrolux as well, bet it was more expensive than the equivalent Zanussi models!

Looks classy too!
 
Moon and Dyson

That Indesit Moon either has transit brackets left in or the spin sensor is not working which is what killed off my Hoover Vision in the end although it did wait 4 years to fail and jump all over the place. You gotto hand it to Indesit it's a very brave design to put on the market and for that i applaud them.

I personally Love the Dyson machine Aquarius1984, it is quite unique and i think rather pretty. I have a few mates with Dyson contrarotators that are used day in day out with workwear n stuff and they r well chuffed with them with no faults at all and they get some hammering I can tell u.

As someone who has a top load machine I am not bothered by the fact that you can't see what is going on as I am used to that. I have had a good look at the Moon and think it is quite an interesting machine. I am put off by the Indesit reputation but it is a unique design and in the right environment, would look very stylish. If I had to choose between say a Beko and the Moon, I would choose the Moon.
 
The Dyson machine is called the Contrarotator. And sparkcymru, if you own one could you post vids of it on youtube or somthing?
 
I think if the Moon had more cycles than it would be a nice machine. I think it's too dumbed down personally, it's not as if a BOL Indesit/Beko/Zanussi/Bosch isn't easy enough to use.

A daring design but I'm not sure if it'll stay on the market for long. Possibly a future classic we'll all be talking about and hunting for in 30 years time! After all, we say we can't see the action but the Keymatic didn't have a window and look how desirable those are now :-).

Indesit in general

We took delivery (not through our choice as we are living in hospital accommodation..... the Creda Simplicity 1000 failed miserably)
The indesit is unusual to watch as it does a slow drum rotation for about 30% of the initial wash stage then speeds up to normal for the latter 70% and does the same for the rinses (2 of them!!!! Whats all that about????) I have to always set a further 2 rinses to make any dent on the rinse stage to be happy with! We are talking cottons cycles here!
The easy care programme does a similar 2 stage wash then does 2 slow rotation rinses, which in my opinion is totally useless!
Delicates..... slow rotation throughout... rubbish
Woolens does distribute wash speed about 7 times and them slow drum rotation for rinses.
Handwash.... High level wash and rinse at slow level....
But amazingly... easy care, delicates and woolens completes 800 spin throughout intermittent wash and rinse spins!!!!!
Sorry, a chimpanzee could do a better job than the Indesit scientists at putting together the programme details for the programmes!!!
Would NEVER buy an Indesit!
PS. 4 programmes on the Moon???? where it belongs in my opinion! (the promo material says it has and "extra rinse".... how do you programme that or any other modifications???
Sorry to rant but not at all pleased with the normal programmes the basice Indesit comes with, let alone the "Moon"!!!!

The only nice thing for me is that the 2nd stage of the rinse does come right up the door to 1/3 level. I now believe the level is inconscuential when it comes to rinse performanceand a further 3 or 4 rinses at low level with the relevant spins speed is much more appropriate
 
Dyson ContraRotator

Hi Steve,
I have two Dysons a CR01 Memory and a CR02 Allergy. My CR01 Memory is my daily driver, it started its seventh year in April and has completed over 6000 cycles to date with NO breakdowns, they are real workhorses. "the most unreliable machine produced to date in the UK" I don't think so aquarius1984. I just love my Dysons they are such unique machines and always a talking point when people see them.

Paul for your information the Dyson protrudes two inches at the bottom of the door, so if two inches equals a mile I must have been absent from school that day. I think two inches is a small sacrifice for a 78 litre drum. The Dysons 78 litre drum is still the largest drum in a standard cabinet even seven years on.

Could you post videos of these machines on youtube please? I've been dying to see a Contrarotator in action and the only video of one so far is a 30-second one of the wash cycle.

Not sure what ya meant as a mile but they certainly stick out like a sore thumb from a mile away lol! Its all that plastic I cant stand. The cleaners look ok but then we all shove em under the stairs when finished. Its good to see Miele gaining more and more in popularity. They deserve it for their extremely well thought out products that look nice. I have a good friend who was at her wits end with her Dyson washer after several call outs she ended up scrapping it and cut her losses with a BOL Zanussi. The story had a happy ending. I have nothing against Dyson I like the cleaners and how they perform. Its just reliability and the rip off cost compared to the £20 total cost of materials they are made from according the my sources. Im sure vacland members who frequent here will confirm this. Whereas with Miele the materials cost is close to selling price. Very little is made in profit. I believe you might be coming across to Cheshire next month, hopefully il be there too, look forward to meeting you. Rob
 
Dyson Bashing

Hi aquarius1984,
If your friend had such problems with her washer Dyson would have replaced the unit for her.
There were four modifications to the Dyson washer; a component called the ramp was found to expand due to atmospheric moisture, the door interlock was redesigned, the coin trap cover was redesigned to include a drain spout and finally the operating software was updated to include ContraRotation at the end of the final spin cycle to fluff the laundry. If your friends Dyson was registered with Dyson she would have been contacted to arrange for the FREE installation of the upgraded components.

Incidentally a certain German company considers 5000 hours to be the equivalent of 20 years use. My Dyson CR01 has completed 6323 cycles so I guess it has already exceeded its 20 year design life and it's still running like the day I bought it, so if that's unreliable I would like to see a reliable machine. I was at home when the Dyson fitted the modified parts to my CR01; to install the ramp the gearbox has to be removed, I was taken aback by the strength and weight of the gearbox. It is engineered with the strength of a cars transmission and certainly nothing like I would associate with a washing machine of any make. None of my Dysons have broken down but the CR01 was upgraded free of charge. While upgrading my washer the Dyson engineer advised me that the company operates a fixed fee service charge system on the washers; if a Dyson washer breaks down out of the two year warranty the call out and repair would be £80 no matter what the problem (Four years ago pricing).

Perhaps if you actually owned a Dyson washer you would be in a better position to condemn them.

It saddens me that the Dyson washer did not sell sufficient numbers to justify its continued production, but I have no regrets whatsoever in purchasing my two Dysons, they have given me many years of washing pleasure and continue to do so.

As for the Indesit Moon which this tread is supposed to be about before the Dyson bashing; it is quite clear from watching the video the transit bolts have not been removed from that particular machine. The Indesit Moon uses the same tub suspension as the Aqualtis and I can tell you the Aqualtis does not move at all during spin.

I had a ariston washer dryer that after probably a year started to bang and try to escape like that was always having to push the darn thing back in lol, and when i had the hotpoint ultima after around 2 months say, it had a really bad blip when the machine came out half way only happened the once though, but suprised it happened at all considering it use to spend so long trying to balance the loads, used to really anoy me, sometimes it could increase the total cycle time by 30-40 mins.

I will do a video soon. I had done one sometime ago but the file was over 1Gb in size and YouTube does not allow files of that size. I have bought myself some new Software, Adobe Creative Suite 3 Master Collection which includes Adobe Premier Pro CS3 so I should be able to shrink the video down.

OK OK maybe a mile was a bit of an exaggeration with the Dysons.

To me personally, the design is a little bit too whacky. Most modern machines are very plasticky but this one, to me seems a bit too plasticky. The colours schemes are also a bit gaudy for my liking - but then again, when Hotpoint introduced the purple liberators, they were probably pilloried as well for being different (and that paid off big style). I remember reading recently, in an old 'Which' Magazine, a warning words to the effect that Hotpoints Liberators have purple doors and styling and to be sure that the machines will suit your kitchen decor!

Also, in the kitchens I have seen them in (admittedly only in pictures on ebay) have them protruding quite far out from under the work surface. My taste is for machines to be on show, but pushed cleanly under the work surface -again, its personal taste.

All the technology in the dyson has to be respected for trying something different - if the packaging was just a bit more 'normal', then I would probably have a bit more time for it.

Likewise, with the Moon, Indesit have to be congratulated for trying something different and I suppose it does exactly what it says on the tin - a simple, no nonsense washing machine.

Its just that neither of them apperal to me.

Like the Keymatic, the Dyson and probably the moon will become classics in a few years time. Maybe by then I will have learnt to appreciate them.

With regard to the shop floor 'demo' Dyson CR01/02; can you tell me if these demo models can be made into fully fledged washers by 'some button pushing', or would they require substantial component replacement?

I know of a store manager who kept one, on the off chance of discovering such a 'fix'.

Demo Model Conversion

Hi Rolls_rapide,
I remember asking the Dyson Engineer that same question when he was updating my CR01 Memory. He told me that the demo models are complete machines and can be made fully functional but it requires replacing the main controller board. The main controller board is located behind the control panel and is easy to access. I don't know how much the main control board would cost but I can tell you a Dyson washer is well worth having in any collection.

The CR01 and CR02 are basically the same machines but the CR02 had the updated components already fitted; namely the Gearbox Actuator commonly referred to as the Ramp, the new door interlock, the new coin trap cover with drain spout and Software version 2.05.

My CR01 Memory is Silver, Purple and Yellow in colour but I prefer the colour of my CR02 2-Drums Allergy which is a quieter Silver and Gray and looks great in my kitchen.

The reality is that if most people thought about it, (and none of us are included in this I imagine!!), they use only two or at a push, three programmes out of the many that are offered on some machines so the Moon is a perfect choice. Just push one button and you are done. For the majority of the population for whom laundry is a chore that is done out of necessity, it offers the perfect solution. I wish they had been around when my mother was buying a new machine as it is PERFECT for her!! That way, I wouldn't have had to do the tutorial that I did!!
 
I Read The Moon Manual

and extra rinse is done by pressing 2 buttons simultaneously. As are couple of extra cycles. But yet no 95degree wash. How does one do a maintenance wash? 60deg is not hot enough to remove the slime that accumulates in our LG. Dare say the same in this. Also I worry that if you got a suds lock spin or loaded it well with towels, water would cascade into the fabric softener compartment on the door which is by no means sealed. There is an inch gap between the top of the door seal and the opening on the dispenser. With no real means of sealing surely the softener will be contaminated. No, sorry this machine along with its Plastic Twin the Aqualtis looks far too cheap for my liking. Like that Indesit Graffiti Fridge Freezer which was short lived I hope they have sense to pull both lines off soon.
 
I don't know what they were thinking when they designed this machine!? Why would you want the detergent and softener dispenser on the inside of the door ?!? I can't really see any problem with the long established, and highly successful drawer arrangement that every other machine on the market has.

Also, why get rid of the glass porthole ? It's one of the thing people like about front loaders!. Even non-enthusiasts like to see their washing going around. At least you know that the machine's doing something!

Why would you want so few programmes ?

It's the worst machine i've ever seen! - A major step backwards in design, even for Indesit !
