Indesit UK Question....

Just got back from our rental flat in leeds. Indesit 1200 washer dryer 2 years old and after 1 60@ wash, had that funny, acidic motor smell and a reduced drum rotation. When the washer is in use, the drum is as slow at rotation on cottons wash as you would find on a wool wash with an AEG. NOt in use, the drum rotates perfectly well with no rasping from the bearings.
The question is..... Is the motor on it's way out or is this slow drum rotation normal during a cottons cycle?

If this is a problem, then I am disgusted at the durability of Indesit considering I bought an AEG 68100 washer dryer for 100.oo more at the same time!!!!!

Have to say, performed a flash 60@ cycle and was very impressed by the fact that the machine tumbled forever in both directions without any pause..... maybe all manufacturers could do the same to cut cycle times?

Any feedback would be very welcome as I need to decide whether we bring this machine into our utility room in the near future or bin it in favour of an american TL!

I have a couple of Hotpoint/Merloni machines but the cottons prog is quite vigorous. Unfortunatey, I've not seen an Indesit work for years. It sounds to me like the motor might be faulty.

I dont know about the acidis smell but yes the drum rotation is normal, when starting the washer the rpm is slower until the water has heated to the correct temp and then when this is achieved it will rotate at normal speed, then prceed to spin after wash, on the rinse cycles the rpm is reduced again in all the rinse cycles. the idea was to reduce creasing. I have noticed when i had my indesit it seems to put too much strain on the motro and we had 3 motors fitted in just over two year all of them faulty armitages.

The one thing i could suggest which is very common with the washer dryers with indesit is the PCB burns out quite quickly if you use the dryer alot. just pop the lid off and have a little look and see if any of the contacts are burnt or looked scorched.

just noticed your link, if u pull the machine out, remove the back or tilt the machine if easier and if yu are standing at the back of the machine the pcb will be to your left.

Thanks for the info. We are up in Leeds again this week so will have a look at the PCB. Nice to know that the machine does go slow at the beginning of the wash then moves up to normal speed. The smell..... well lets see. We are having a problem with our kitchen drainage at home and will need to take some washing there. will see how the machine works under pressure..!!! Had an indesit washer for two years. Utter crap. The drum rotates very slowly until water heats and then drum action is not that vigorous mine broke twice in 2 years binned it!!

thats exactly what happened to ours, ok it was on 3-4 times a day and the wash i pesonally thought was quite good, as said thought the motors are rubbish ours lasted 2 years as we had three motors fitted in total then the board burnt out and we replaced that then another motor failed so we just dumped it aswell after just over 2 years...

such a shame things are not meant to last as they used to

Within the last year I had to help my old Mum get a new washing machine and dryer set. I did quite a bit of research and decided that the Indesit would fit the bill for her. She does about 2 loads a week so wear and tear isn't an issue. however, when I spoke to the woman in the store and expressed an interest in the Indesit range she pulled the strangest face and exclaimed with suprise "are you REALLY interested in an Indesit?" In a nutshell she said that no one in the store recommended them to anyone and almost guaranteed that it would need repair within 2 years. Not having much time to spare we quickly decided to take Indesit out of the equation. I know people who have had these machines for years and had no trouble but the information I hear and read leads me to beleive that the quality is now quite poor. I would never choose and Indesit for myself even before my experiences.

My first washer was my Grandma's Indesit since 1977. It was working fine!

My sister also have an Indesit washer and it runs fine from 1991.

Now I Have an Indesit WIDL106 Washer/dryer. I 'm doing 5 Loads a week and I Don't have any problem.
The Only problem is the noise.... Indesit is too noisy!
