info help for Mom's 1978 ge dryer..?

im trying to identify my dryer model so i can order parts,

it will only heat on the low setting, so i guess the high heat coil has failed.
it's all original and is still working good..

i need a set of heating element coils for my moms' 1978 ge "commercial" dryer
( outer coils 49 1/2"
inner coils 42 1/2" replacement coils for dryer ge 1978 ) ?? / or do i have to buy the whole heating ( round ) assembly ?

i cant find the model # , any help would be so appreciated, thanks in advance !

Model number is on ID plate just below the start switch on the right hand side of the door opening. It should be on the top line in the silver area and begins with DE. If one heating element has gone, you probably ought to replace both.

No high heat on a 1978 GE dryer

Hi, if low heat works and high heat, doesn’t you have a bad temperature switch.

It’s interesting. Your dryer has an access area for a gas burner, but the model number plate shows that it’s an electric dryer. Don’t know how that happened.

If this dryer is electric, when you put it on high heat, both identical heating coils are on full blast. When you put it on low heat only one heating coil is on. So even if you put it on high heat, it should still be heating with one of the coils it’s also slightly possible That the heating coils have shorted onto each other, which might be producing this unusual result the best thing to do is to disassemble the dryer and inspect the heating coils. These heating coils are still readily available. The part number is WE 11 X 60.

thanks to everyone here who helped me ...!

i finally kinda figured out its a 1978 (?)..and it almost matches the literature as GE DDE0580GAL

after getting it apart i realized it was worth repair. everything in this machine is made of steel, built like America was proud to build things then.it has been running since 1978 when it was new.

i repaired / replaced the heating element coils (2) , rear drum bearing , and drum belt ....cleaned it up nice and it runs almost silent and hot.

thanks to all here for the wealth of info !

These older machines are almost always worth repairing, the quality today just isn't there. Dryers are such easy devices to work on, there's no reason in at least tearing one down and assessing the problem.
