info regarding maytag washer transport and model

Is it okay to transport this maytag washer on it's side, or must it be upright. This is the model with the 4 buttons on the left. Does it have the suds saver on it? Am not that familiar with the different types, but would like it to have that option. Also have heard negative things about transport of maytags on sides. Thanks for assist. les.

We'd need better pictures to see if it's suds saver or not, they are rare. The buttons on the very left would need to be five buttons for it to be a suds model. Also, look at the drainage setup in the pic, it looks like a standard standpipe hidden in the wall, no tub for saving the suds in. Sorry. Depending on how electrical you are, there is a surefire way to cheat the machine and save the suds, but it's a bit involved, but it has been done.

 

I have heard that Maytags should be transported standing up, but tons of machines have been moved on their side, you lose a bit of oil. How long a distance?

 

If you are interested in a poor man's suds saver conversion, wait until it's home and set up, I can advise.

Both the washer and dryer can be moved on their sides with no worry of leaking oil.

Based on what I've read on this blog, the leaking oil issue effects Maytag wringer washers, not the automatics.

That machine is not a a suds-saver.  

It appears to be a late 1970s AA108.  I did not stutter.  "A" was the color code for the NON-shaded avocado that was introduced in 1977.

How long on it's side? A few hours won't hurt, but not a few days.

Don't forget to tape the washer lid shut - you don't want to risk damaging the centre dial or the control panel!

Kenny, can you or someone else explain to me why a Maytag shouldn't be left on its side for more then a few hours?

I've left an older Maytag on its side for weeks which I have actually found to be beneficial for the lubrication of the upper bearing in the transmission in an older machine where the oil has become stiff.  Three years and hundreds of loads of laundry later that 1967 machine is still going strong.

I was always told not to. Can't explain why, didn't think about upper bearing lubrication. It probably would be beneficial.

Went to pick up the washer tonight and the deal fell thru for multiple reasons; sorry if I bothered anyone. Thanks for the information though. Am still looking for that particular model with the lighted console and the suds saver. les.

May Be Just As Well....

The reason is that non-shaded Avocado. Unless you're cool with varied colors for your major appliances (some of us are, some aren't), that's a fairly uncommon variation that would be hard to match exactly with other appliances.

Manufacturers were trying for an "updated" look and a little cost savings when they stopped making shaded colors; they tried to make everyone believe that these unshaded appliances "matched" previously-manufactured shaded ones. The problem was, when you put a new unshaded appliance next to a shaded one, the difference JUMPED out at you.

It's also getting hard to find certain Avocado majors. Ranges aren't too bad, and there are still some dishwashers out there. But refrigerators in the color are not easy to come by; the newest ones are more than thirty years old.

A806 pairs are still not that hard to find; you will run across some without too much difficulty.
