Infuriating Modern Washing Machines

Does anyone else get irritated by the way that modern machines operate?

For example, my latest machine, a Panasonic front loader, when on the speed cycles, will not do the final de-plastering tumble after the final spin. It spins, stops abruptly, door unlocks, end.

It will do the tumble on a normal Cottons wash - but that takes anywhere between 2 and 3 hours.

The pumped jet spray operates in short bursts, but seems to be in a certain temperature range. For example, recirculating 90 deg C wash water it will not do. The old Zanussi did.

The fuzzy logic Autocare program is a nice idea, by poorly executed. The machine decides itself which spin speed to select - and no final tumble either.

The speed cycles are designed to be done as quick as possible, so they cut out as much as possible. That includes the fluff tumbles. It even reduces the number of trys to balance on interim spins.

Our Panasonic did 2min on 2min of for the recirc. Boilwashes don't recirculate to prevent the pump from overheating.

The Autocare possibly thinks you have a synthetic or mixed load, thus wanting to reduce creases.

If your machine has the Quick 50 cycles, that is worth a look. I think it did fluff up at the end.
Or run the Speed cycles without spin, the just run the normal spin.
Sure it takes the entire 3h? Our Panasonic usually sensed to 1:40h ish with extra rinse selected. Only the fullest of loads took the entire 2h, which I however always thought was OK for a true 8kg load.

Yes it has that, and it doesn't do the final tumble. The old NA-16VX1 did tumble on the Quick 1hr cycle.

On the NA-168XR1, I tried Cottons + Speed option = no tumble.

I honestly do not know what manufacturers are trying to prove. You would imagine that they might try to incorporate the final loosening tumble: even if they did it for 30 seconds with the drain pump switched off.

New Washer Rolls_Rapide

Nice to hear a message from R_R again, sorry new washer not quite featured as you expected.Upon reading of demise of your old washer I was hoping to hear a report of a new EBAC washer or are they still not available in Scotland with Ebac's slow distribution roll out? A UK built washer with promises of durability sounds great and reports from owners are eagerly waited for.

There's actually more to the new Panasonic than I first thought. If the drum is empty: no final tumble. If there are articles in the drum, it does a final tumble, though only on certain programmes. Obviously, the machine is too intelligent for its own good!

I would have given priority to the new Ebac machine, but it is only sold through the small independent shops in Cumbria. I did contact Ebac, and they suggested that one of the small shops in England might be able to dispatch one in my direction. I didn't go down that route. I went to my local dealer and bought the Panasonic.

I don't know of anyone who has bought one of the new Ebac machines. Sales seem to be centred on shops in the North of England.
