Inglis Belt Drive Find

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

It was free but had a broken belt. I was able to easily get a new belt from the parts store and not so easily replace it! Actually, it wasn't all that bad - I just forgot to engage the pump lever to the cam when I put it all back together so it wouldnt pump at first :) Rookie move!

Here is a pic from underneath - at this point I haven't done any cleaning yet and it doesn't look too bad - no rust an no leaks!

Issues:

Mechanically, it seems fine and it runs through the paces as it should. There is no evindence of any leaks and I don't see any rust at all inside or outside the machine. However, couple things I'll need to address:

-The inlet valve is rusty so it must have a slight leak - I'll either need to replace it or rebuild (?) the old one.

-The porcelain coating on the inner tub has eroded and it feels like a chalk board. Odd as it appears this machine has seen very little use. Either I need to find a new one or try and recoat this old one. Anyone ever had any success recoating an inner basket?

-It seems there is a very slight rubbing noise coming from the bottom under the service panel. It doesn't seem to be an issue however as the machine runs strong so it may be that it has been just sitting for a long time.

You have found yourself an excellent deal! Especially considering the washer is about 45 years old and all you've done so far is replace the belt. The machine looks to be well cared for and in great condition. Congratulations!

And here is a video of the guts. In the video (especially up to about 42 seconds in) you can hear the rubbing noise I mentioned....anyone have any ideas what it is? Do any of the experts see any other problems? Sorry for my horrible video skills.

I thought I heard you running that machine from my place :-)

If you heard it all the way to Burnaby then my neighbors are going to be choked! Neat to know there's another collector so close! Any ideas Eddy on where I could possibly get a new inner tub around here?

Thanks for all the compliments from everyone.

Wow...great find....I had the 64 version of this, only mine had the MagicMix manual clean filter, and no dispensers...the control panel is dead on....mine did not light up....and odd to see a filter light, thats usually a Kenmore exclusive...

that WashNWear cycle "cool down" phase should be 6 drains and fills, no agitation, and then onto the first spin....talk about water hog.....first time I used it, I though the timer was stuck, and wasn't gonna stop!.....drain, fill, drain, fill, drain, fill, etc....6 times!

The number of drains & refills on WnW depends to a degree on how fast is the pump-out and what water level is used.  The timer runs during the drains but not of course during the refills.

Whirlpool did have a filter light for several years in the 1960s.  This pic is of a 1966 Supreme 80.  The little lens over the water level illuminates during agitation/filtering.  I have a brochure saved for 1969 that shows a light on the TOL model.

i remember my grandmother old inglis liberator before she bought her kenmore washer it had that particular lid handle configuration like the washer above but it was a magic brush filter model and had this particular agitator and it was an inglis washer and it was a 3 cycle model with no water level knob only a temp knob on the right beside the timer knob water level was automatic.
