Inside the Frigidaire Dishwasher

A month ago I moved into a new apartment that came with a WCI-made Frigidaire machine. Which also means i'm SELLING MY 5 MONTH OLD DANBY countertop dishwasher, if anyone's interested.

So I took my digital camera and a flashlight, wrapped the camera in a ziplock bag, and ran the machine with the camera on. I was having issues with sediment stuck in glasses on the top rack. So i took my dremel tool to the wash tower and enlarged the holes. I think I have the results I wanted. Take a look!

LOL, thanks. It's surprisingly secure in the ziplock bag.
Since thinking of this, I'll be doing this alot more. Expect alot more vids like that.

Awesome vids! The camera in a bag is a great idea, not to mention enlarging the holes on the spray tower - I did that with a Hotpoint/GE dishwasher once on the lower spray arm.

You are a genious, but very close to that line separating...you know. Sort of reminded me of the passing of a stone in the first part. That did not seem like much force from the lower wash arm. Was it bad lighting and/or bad camera angle because you had to quickly reposition them to show the lower wash arm or do you think that you took power away from it by enlarging the slits into slots? Thanks for the great shots of what is normally not seen. That could be an idea for the next zipper bag commercial on television: Would you trust a cheap bag to protect your video camera in a dishwasher?!?! What the?

the frigidaire has pretty weak spray to begin with. it's not a very good dishwasher. it is a quiet one though, but that's cuz it's weak. as you see, the tower has barely enough pressure to hold it erect. i'm sure the enlarging of the holes made the pressure drop a bit, but not too much.
it did help with more water getting to the top...but not completely. crud still gets stuck in a lot of the glasses.

the timer's messed up on it though, it stalls in the dry cycle. so the apartment maintenance guys are gonna replace it in a week or so with a ROPER unit.
anyone know anything about those Roper machines. i know they're quite basic, no macerator, hypothetical filtering system.

i'll have a vid of the Roper as soon as we get the machine.

yes i have to work on my lighting and angles a bit.

yes i'm selling my Danby countertop dishwasher. Its for sale for $100.00 or best offer. Shipping is obviously on the buyer. I'd rather it be picked up by someone in the northern illinois region. but beggars can't be choosers about buyers, i just want to get the unit off my hands.
it does a fantastic job at normal everyday dishes. pots and pans need to be prepped a bit before washing.

John, the Roper will be a significant improvement.

Actually the Roper, if it's the one with no wash arm for the top rack, has an awful tube in the center of both racks that blocks anything large that you try to wash. The link takes you to a review that is pretty true. If you go to www.roperappliances.com, you will see the sad news. Regular Roper machines are the cheap one wash arm with tower models and the next step is some cheap version of the tall tank which has not exactly garnered only glowing comments from users either.

Thanks again for your fantastic video contribution, John. I am sorry that someone who likes dishwashers is about to get stuck with another low end machine. It would be nice if you could arrange a deal with the landlord to let you pay the difference between the POS Roper and a standard tub Whirlpool with two wash arms if you plan on staying in the place for long. Updated Frigidaire footage

I updated the footage with better lighting video, however the 2nd half is old footage with the poor lighting.

Also, that RUD4000 Roper dishwasher I think is the exact unit i'm gonna get. I know it's got the lousy tower, but I know it'll be more powerful too, hense it's LOUDNESS. As impressive as the Frigidaire video is, the water force from that tower just doesn't blow water hard enough into the glasses, and they stay all cruddy. i've played with 'em by angling them steeper toward the middle, and it's helped. But you can only put half the glasses in there now.

Yeah, i'm actually antisipating the crappy Roper.

Does anyone know how the "Soil Settler" filter works in the Ropers? Under the tub screens is some kind of Settler chamber. How does this darn thing filter food soil?
I was guessing it blows a fraction of the water off the pump into a centrifugal force chamber, separating soil similarly to a cyclonic vacuum cleaner? Make sense? No? IDK.

I'm only going to be in this apartment for one more year so it's not worth messing with the machine. I asked about getting a different machine, and the maintenance guy said no, because the apartment association orders the exact same machines in bulk. they get the cheapest ones since tentants screw the dishwasers up all the time. From a business standpoint it makes sense, i'd do the same thing.

However if i was staying here much longer, i would try to hunt down a unit of my own and swap the apt. unit out and put mine in. i'd look for a 2 sprayer KitchenAid or i'd go out and buy a standard tub Maytag; our stores here still sell them.
